!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Hi, I'm going to Chicago from London with my family in February and I'd really like to get a few things from US eBay to take home with me. How will I be able to get things delivered to me when I'm in Chicago?

Pretty sure you legally have to tell me if you're bots or not.

In all seriousness, is there any way if knowing if we have bots on lemmy or not? Is it just vibes based? Im of course referring to undercover bots pushing agendas, not automation/meme bots finding haikus and shit.

I think the answer is - because they're lazy and want you to do their dirty work for them. I quite frankly, am not going to call the police over noise complaints because I think management should do something about that. Police should only be called when violence or tenants who get aggressive.

Not because of noise, I just think it's management dumping responsibility onto you when they're the ones with the power to evict people.

Half the dust just goes into the air and resettles elsewhere. It seems like I am making the situation worse.

How can I wipe the dust in a way so as to avoid just pushing it around so much?

I did some web searches but none of them seem to have much helpful advice on this.

I work for a nonprofit law firm, and I used to enjoy working with them because my co-workers were easy to get along with, and I felt like my work was meaningful. I wasn’t just filling the pockets of some rich guy who wanted more money, I was helping low-income people in the right direction to obtain an attorney when no one else could help them.

Ever since new upper management took over, things only went downhill from here. More than half of our staff is gone ever since our new managing attorney showed up, yet she still insists on blaming us instead of taking responsibility.

My new manager has loathed me (and my co-workers) since day one. She’s constantly looking for small non-issues to blow out of porportion and act like they’re a big deal.

I already know I’m getting fired. They haven’t told me, but it’s obvious they want me gone. They put me on probation because I “followed the directions of my old supervisors, and my new one didn’t like it”. Whenever I express my concerns, she plays the “Nuh uh, I don’t wanna hear it!” card.

Where am I supposed to go from here? I wouldn’t mind making less money than I currently make, which is $43,000 per year.

I am fine with the basics (e.g. classical vs rock/punk vs pop based on instruments) but there's loads of other terms that aren't very intuitive.

What is the difference between "alternate" rock and I guess "regular" rock? What is the difference between rock and punk? What is post-(insert subgenre here, like punk)? What is pop rock (the music subgenre, not the fizzy candy rocks), and how is it different from rock pop? What makes music "progressive"? What on earth are the "blues"? What is the difference between rock, metal, hard metal, heavy metal, etc. aside from an increasing level of angriness and decreasing level of clarity? etc etc

I remember learning that trademarks that have been genericized (like Band-Aid, Popsicle, Velcro, Clorox, etc) are at risk of losing their trademark or copyright.

Can someone explain to me how exactly does this work? Cause i never really understood this

Think like the NSA or CIA type of stuff

Assume they are kinda the helicopter parenting type.

Just curious... cuz maybe I have an idea for storywriting... maybe...

The reason why I'm posting on NoStupidQuestions a bit often is because I got banned from Lemmy.ml and such because I was being a bit too "revisionist". If anything I've said may be revisionist, I apologize. I should really study and read theory, shouldn't I?

I am an absolute Linux baby running Mint23(?) on my PC. I wanted to play an ancient game from my childhood that I cherished but I don't really know how to get it off the Internet Archive onto my computer.

The game

Any suggestions?

I personally think optimism is better than doomerism, and that there is hope. Seriously!

By letting her go into the man-eating leeches of Lake Lacrymose?

Something like where they whisper sweet nothings as they placate the person to assured certain destruction (ACD)

It seems like te stupidest thing to me. Why are you going to attack someone who has politely asked you and/or your child to behave themselves or at least stop actively doing something harmful

Why the hell would they disincentivize their kids when someone has just given them an out to have a teachable moment and possibly nudge their kid behave better and possibly for the parent?

Totally theoretically; would it be possible to create a system of satellites that a government (like Iran for example) couldn't block access to that would allow people to get even a limited form of the internet? If so what would it look like?

24

No matter how many times I try to study theory (with Cowbee's method of taking each paragraph and boiling them down simply in their own words), I never get to fully process theory. What should I do?

This goes out to all the DBZer0, Lemmy.ml, Hexbear and Lemmygrad people out there reading this. Seriously!

Example: Like in Iran.
