This is right on time. I read a discussion on how "Chinese models" are censored on topics like Tiannamen square. But the real issue is that we (average person) are only able to spot such things from a distance (either geographical or temporal.)

This means that "our" models may already have blindspots, reality twists, and the like. Only that we are not (on average) spotting it (yet)

Personalization of answers and bubble reinforcement will come. The algorithms have been increasing their capacity to influence us. Not only for their sheer power solving benchmarks but by the legitimacy that's being accumulated in the process.

"[device] can run [custom os] with ease" dixit. I agree with what you refer to, as main phone it might be uncomfortable. But I did answer what OP asked..

Non-local ai server! Just the opposite of what you didn't want /s but fr. ai horde, idk. Else, some other number cruncher... Not crypto. How about those science distributed calcs? There was one for biology, proteinfold

I liked piefed until I learnt about the hidden filters. But still, I see their point. There are dozens of lefties here! Dozens!!

Edit: thanks rimu for your reply. I was unaware of that post. Piefed is my fav again :) Somehow I was under the impression that piracy comms were banned.

You can protest in any language. Except russian. Unless zombie. Or ghost. Yes, in any language. Just do it (TM?)

Nuru? They renamed postmarketOS just a few days ago, can't remember how's called now. But it's compatible with non-flagship devices. Else you're into other OSes that are trying to be competitive in this ecocidal market ;•\

Perhaps the phantom itself was the meme by definition of those days, at the dawn of the Internet.. (:

I don't think it was fat. Just some overweight maybe. Anyway, I traced it back: Frankie LaPenna vs. EngineAI T800

Tactile screen was dreamed by TV. Mobiles covered that. On the technical standpoint, arm power consumption and having music, camera, gps, etc. all resonated with online/! digitalization of our selves. So, yes. I concur!

Lol! This is great. I have some friends that "spontaneously" got interested into human-like robots and the other day shared with me a video of a extremely fake MMA fight in Texas that was human vs. robot

Yet, they claimed it looked real. To which I replied the robot has no pain in their programming and even if it had, how are you supposed to win by submission if they can happily lose an arm and continue...

So, this story and the reactions it sowed are brilliant example to me: we need to stop anthropomorphizing technological advances like robots and LLMs!

Start with Silvia federicci

[...] We should heed the wisdom of the late Carl Sagan that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence: the claims from Coxon and his ilk are the most extraordinary a technologist can make, and we must demand evidence commensurate with the claims. That said, we should not expect the public to understand LLMs, critical infrastructure, bioweapons, extinction biology, etc. — that burden must lie with those making the claim. The lesson that I learned (shamefully) decades ago is that domain experts, by way of their expertise, implicitly hold the public’s trust — and we must not abuse it. It is incumbent upon us to be circumspect in our claims — and maximally so when raising the alarm.

These articles feel like scrolling through infographics or watching a mini documentary. I really enjoyed "Urban Africa" but there are many others to go through.. Which one was your favorite and why? drop a comment :)

Check what can you use and at what rate of token per seconds would it be... It has examples of many models and quantization levels. Huge resource!

I've just found the project. And it seems very interesting take. I am adding a link to their blog entry discussion on a system to combat LLMs abuse via a web of trust.

From their site:

We envision a place where developers have ownership of their code, communities can freely self-govern and most importantly, coding can be social and fun again.

I just like the ring of these two words. Like civil disobedience against opression... I consider self hosting to be the epitome of these actions, in the context of global corporations "ruining" every "product" (be it: privacy concerns, data brokers, pushing AI into products, etc.) Hence, the concept that arises when these two words come together: Cybernetical Disobedience, is the greatest motivation (imho) to spin up some containers, be it searxng, vaultwarden, syncthing, or arr stack. All comes with some rebellious ideation behind... Do any of you feel like me?

This is a "nextcloud" or "owncloud" alternative. Its origin was as a fork to owncloud infinite scale (ocis), so it's shares the underlying feature set (written in Go instead of PHP, being lenient on resources and usable on a raspberry pi 4B.)

The latest release (2.0, see link) leverages PosixFS so instead of having to manage a database, you can rely on snapshots (on the filesytem) for all your backups.
