I don't know anything about how fitness works tbh. Been going to the gym for months now following a routine I made up with zero idea what I was doing. Just attempting to hit every muscle and seperating out muscles groups by days.

Not a pleasant story, but certainly ends pleasantly enough

I recall once joining my sister as she visited this one person who owned a field and like tons of animals, and at the time I wasn't paying the sharpest attention, but I remember the owner of the cat she was buying was trying to brush this Persian cat's fur; I remember the cat was shockingly wild and vicious, and thinking 'Ah man, and I'm going to be in the same car as this damn thing'. My sister yelled at the guy to stop and to just hand her the cat, so he did; I didn't know at the time why she was being so rude to the guy.

When we got in the car and drove off, with the cat in the backseat, I remember the cat calmly just hops between us and then sits in my lap with no fuss, or any kind of hissiness whatsoever. Absolutely calmest cat I'd ever seen.

My sister then told me the owner was extremely abusive towards this cat; for one thing he'd had the cat declawed (which at the time I didn't see the issue with, but then I found out that claws are basically like fingers to cats), and he'd stuck the cat in a cage between two very angry dog cages, and that cage in that place was its life for who knows how long. My older sister is very friendly but she gets a visceral reaction towards animal abusers (I still remember when we went to a horse jumping show, she nearly jumped out of the stadium to throttle a jockey who got angry at his horse and slapped it).

The cat was shockingly calm at home, and didn't seem to have any interest in hunting either; my other two siblings were very young at the time and were very heavyhanded/harsh/don't know their own strength pet fans (tight hugs, very heavy petting, that kind of thing); they loved the cat to bits but the cat didn't like them, but the cat never showed any aggression towards them in the slightest, only fleeing and hiding when it had the chance. I never saw the viciousness in that cat like I had when it was with its former owner. If I didn't know what trauma in animals looks like, this cat was 100% the clearest show of it.

Ultimately its life at our home was obviously a much better situation for it; it eventually got dementia and died a fair number of years back but at least it was with a family that mostly liked it (I am not a pet person in the slightest; I like animals, but not in my own house).

It's an old story but I thought I'd share it because I've always considered my older sister to be a really awesome person and I thought perhaps folks here might appreciate the story.

'Taigyaku Jiken', a 1989 piece by Iri and Toshi Maruki, was inspired by the High Treason Incident of 1910

Kōtoku Incident (幸徳事件, Kōtoku Jiken), was a socialist-anarchist plot to assassinate the Japanese Emperor Meiji in 1910, leading to a mass arrest of leftists, as well as the execution of 12 alleged conspirators in 1911.

Uchiyama Gudō, born on this day in 1874, was a socialist Buddhist priest who opposed Japanese imperialism, oligarchic land ownership, and the rule of the Emperor. He was executed by the state in 1911 during the "High Treason Incident".

Gudō was ordained as a Soto Zen priest in 1897. In 1904, he became the abbot of Rinsenji temple in a poor area of a rural region of the Hakone Mountains. Village tradition states that every autumn Gudō would invite poor villagers to divide the harvest from the temple's only two trees equally among themselves.

Gudō was a self-identified socialist and outspoken advocate for redistributive land reform, overturning the Meiji emperor system, encouraging conscripts to desert en masse, and advancing democratic rights for all. He also criticized Zen leaders who claimed that low social position was justified by karma.

One of Gudō's most widely read and circulated works was a scathing denunciation of the Imperial Japanese government. Contradicting official state doctrine, he argued that the Emperors of the Imperial family were neither divine nor the destined rulers of Japan, and that their ancestors "came forth from a corner of Kyushu, killing and robbing people as they did. They then destroyed their fellow thieves."

Due to the popularity of Gudō's subversive publications, he was arrested in May 1909 and charged with violating press and publication laws. When police uncovered an alleged socialist plot to assassinate the Emperor (known as the "High Treason Incident"), Gudō was accused of being a co-conspirator.

In 1911, he, along with eleven other socialists, were convicted and executed. In July 1909, before Gudō's conviction, officials of the Sōtō Zen sect revoked Gudō'sabbotship.

The irony being that the "small towns" where people "take care of each other" are actually black neighborhoods, meanwhile the white ones are ravaged by opioids and white people killing each other.

I went to the border city of Narva to watch the Victory Day parade that was being held on the Russian side of the river in Ivangorod to salute the Red Army and sing along to the USSR anthem, bringing my keffiyeh, EFF beret and SACP flag. I had planned to take my flag out to wave it and unroll it in front of the Narva Castle, right beneath the wall of copium as a Red Army banger was playing, but ultimately decided against it because there was far too many cops everywhere. So I went to another castle retaining wall, behind some shrubs in a more secluded area away from the crowds to set up the flag there for a photoshoot and it was a pain enough as it is to keep the black-star SACP flag in frame, let alone keeping it from falling down from the castle wall after I had propped it up with some large sticks I found off the ground. I was eventually successful in getting a good enough shot of me in front of the flag and then packed up to watch the rest of the parade, at least until my bus back to Tallinn.

It was over an hour in after I was done, watching the parade when nearly 20 police officers and rapid response border patrol surrounded me and with 3 police cars, complete with camo, Magpul carrier pouches and Slava Ukraini patches (because of course) and I'm told that I was reported due to the rolled-up red flag in my travel bag - so merely posessing it, not even a public display. I get escorted to the opposite side of a police van, several photos taken and arrested by border security, taken to a police station over 3 kilometers away after the third squad car arrives on scene. Then I get patted down completely and taken in for questioning, with them going through my phone's camera roll and the items in my pockets. They take photos of some of the political memes and stickers from Palestine rallies, which I used as a bookmark and with one of the officers even stating "oh great, he's one of those Palestinian supporters too". They have not yet decided whether or not charged will be filed for "incitement, expressing communistic and pro-Putin/Kremlin sentiments", with possible hints at left-wing extremism. The arresting officers' main concern was that I may attract media attention from "adversaries". No word yet on previous complaints of having the SACP flag on my balcony. Police ended up confiscating the flag. So what I said about "being the first person to be arrested for expressing support for the SACP after the end of Apartheid" turned out to be true after all.
