At risk of giving anyone ideas, why do LLM training scrapers request pages from sites millions of times per day instead of just doing the equivalent of wget -r https://example.com/ ? If the point is just stealing things people have written, what do they accomplish by wasting a web host's resources beyond being an ⊛ to webmasters?

Edit: Let me elaborate. A lot of the answers i'm seeing are just restating the problem without explaining why LLM scrapers are apparently all either coded by idiots or assholes. I know that they're hitting sites with unreasonable numbers of requests, wasting bandwidth, and making tools like Anubis too important. I know that's what's happening. I'm asking why. What they gain from not being even a little intelligent about this.

With all the money and effort (and maybe even brainpower) going into this, surely there's some explanation beyond incompetence.

They lack any meaningful design in comparison to other currencies, since all denominations stick to mainly black and white designs with slight hints of color as they've remained the same for a long time. Why won't USD switch to Polymer bills (it was first unveiled in Australia) like they've done in the UK or UAE for example.

The first part is in reference to this story which I've seen in a few different publications now.

Today, I happened to look up the price of Bitcoin (because it was relevant to a conversation I was having) and found it had shot up recently and was now at about $77,400 (up from the $63,000 when I last checked). Doing a little bit of searching, it seemed like the reason was the bond buyback.

(Sorry also for the sensationalistic hype article. I'm about as critical of blockchain snake oil as anyone can be. But I didn't find a better article about why it affected the price of Bitcoin.)

My questions are, in simple terms:

• Is it roughly correct that buying a U.S. Treasury bond is loaning the U.S. money?
• And that this story about bonds is basically saying that the U.S. government is "working on paying off its debts" (to bond holders)?
• How is the interest rate on bonds decided?
• What are bond "yields" exactly? (Is that just the same as the interest rate on bonds?)
• Why are yields skyrocketing?
• What reason does the treasury secretary give for buying back bonds?
• Are there probable hidden ulterior motives for doing so? If so, what are they?
• It seems like the idea to buy back bonds came from the White House, so this is probably a MAGA thing, yes? (Or is it more bipartisan than that?)
• Who (if anyone) thinks the buyback is a bad idea and why?
• Why are the blockchain bros so excited? What do they think this has to do with cryptocurrencies?

Thank you in advance, people! I like to think I know a fair amount about a fair amount, but finance (let alone fake blockchain Libertarian fairy tail finance) definitely isn't my strong suit, and I'm curious to know more about the dynamics at play here and where they're likely to lead.

Like am I an insane outlier here when it comes to AI and robotics? I cant imagine having a fucking robot in my home, let alone one run by an AI. Nor can I understand why the fuck people want their cars to have it in them with the ability to monitor their biometrics.

Maybe I'm just the outlier here, but I genuinely have no interest in the slop machines or their potential clanker bodies and see no use in them.

I feel like that was a cool and unique enough mark for original subreddit to give it a different vibe than most other communities with similar intent.

It also helps standardizing the titling format just enough to make it less confusing and clearer when reading them. Now that there is a brand new modding team I feel like this could be a good thing to add here

Somelse asked about what is DNS, but how are there multiple DNS server. You can buy a domain from cloudflare like say example.org, but how does clouflare get to claim that domain as it's own, and how can there be DNS outages when there are multiple DNS servers? Is there a DNS authority? And does every government have there own DNS servers that point to the main ones?

Maybe I should have said it more properly. How does my "style" of just typing come through? Does it come thru like a written word? I am just looking for a way so I can identify my style and make critques to it instead of the funneled version.
