I haven't had a car that has tried this with me, but it will result in an instant selling of the vehicle or replacement of the infotainment system.

Good luck on the latter. Nowadays the can bus is wired straight to the infotainment system and there is no more simple square din for a drop in head unit.

Even back in the day there was stuff like this going on. I had a 1986 Pontiac 6000. I replaced the head unit with a cd player and the cruise control stopped working. The cruise control wires went through the head unit.

Are you paying for your cars in cash? It’s not like ime ever going to own a home. A car company pisses me off they got to repo the damn car.
