There's a lovely feature of open source.... you can just change it however you like.
I'm weirdly supportive. Putting walls between teens and boobs is the real incubator for future technical leaders. I would know.
or you know ... lets not block the normal sexual development of kids into normal functioning adults by repressing their desires and punishing them thus turning them into weird violent psycho rapists...

I love that this sparked so much discussion. My point was creating obstacles to seeing naked people is a powerful motivator to learn how to overcome those obstacles, and depending, could result in valuable/marketable skills.
That was not a statement against porn so much as an observation that the anti-porn crusade has inspired countless burgeoning software developers to uh... rise to the occasion.
I don't think his argument is that we should restrict anything, more so that circumvention requires learning, and is a great motivator. I definitely can +1 this from my own youth. Learning how to bypass well-intentioned internet protections on school computers so I could play flash games sparked an interest in technology that I may never have discovered otherwise.
It's a weird internal conflict to know that my core is shaped by an experience I otherwise believe shouldn't exist in a reasonable society.
I think porn for kids is a huge mistake and a very bad idea for humans in general. It builds fantasies in kids’ heads that don’t happen in a normal relationship. Basically, they raise the bar too high for kids and set their expectations too high that normal sex becomes straight up bad.
That of course doesn’t mean I agree with age verification. There has to be a better way to “protect the children” than fucking everyone else up.

I think porn became a replacement for nature.
In the wild social animals see their parents or tribe or whatever you call that have intercourse in a natural way. When humans lived in tribes or small huts or one room peasant builsings it was normal as well, since the whole family would sleep in one bad. Way later, when christianity was used by aristocracy for control, came the concept of shame and hiding it as a way to create a larger percieved difference between the "higher class chosen by god" vs. the "animal like lowlives".
So after taking that natural experience away, young people are drawn to replace it somehow (they are naturally curious and if you make something forbidden, they want it even more) and porn is commercialized to the point of being as addictive as possible by being over the top. Which is not good.
Access to the porn that appears on the internet has nothing whatsoever to do with normal sexual development. Kids don't need to know about anal prolapse videos.
that says more about the kind of stuff you seek out than saying anything in favour of the point you're trying to make.
I never saw anything like that before I was long past being a grownup and I had free access to the internet since I was a teen.
I saw two girls one cup very early on, along with Isis beheading videos and the fake pain olympics clip. You don't need to be into stuff to be exposed to it on the internet.
With that said, censorship isn't an answer. It's a great way to promote tech literacy and cyber security skills in horny teen boys, but doesn't do much else besides be an excuse to increase the surveillance state at the will of capital.
The only effective solution is terrifying (/s) so I fear that a nanny state may be the only alternative, because otherwise parents have to do the unthinkable: talk to their kids.
