I know Ubuntu allows you to try out the OS off of a USB before you do a full install. Do note that performance will probably take a hit since it's running off a USB, but it usually works just fine for basic web browsing, writing a spreadsheet, etc.
I am going to be USB booting into Linux, to try and recover data off a failing drive, from a Syneology NAS.
It will be my first toe dip.
