Most noteworthy for me is the fact that more Americans think that porn (52%) and homosexuality (39%) are wrong than spanking children (23%) and being ultra wealthy (18%).

We've had IVF tech for half a century. Still waiting for all those dooms about designer babies to come true. Any day now...

Perhaps they just haven't reached that technological point yet. When they do have that tech, you don't think that Sociopathic Oligarchs will use those advances to create their own super children?

Even just being able to filter out any embryos with problems is along that path. I don't think there's anything wrong with it at that level, but at the extremely high current and future costs, IVF is strictly for people with money, and eventually they will be manipulating the genetics, if they aren't already. It's not like they're going to tell YOU.

Of course designer babies would take longer since the human genome had not even been decoded yet. But now anyone's DNA can be sequenced cheaply it's only a matter of time. We recently got a company that lets you pick your IVF embryo based on predicted IQ and other genetic indicators.

And how common are such cases? Again, Gattaca came out nearly 30 years ago. I firmly reject the attitude of "it's only a matter of time," as it completely ignores all the works that goes into maintaining professional ethics and practices.
