Can somebody please explain why nouns like "the Devil", "the Pope", "the Holy Spirit" need the word "the"? (lemmy.world)

Aren't they all proper nouns and therefore supposed to not need the definite article?

The catholic canon is but the biggest canon, and all of it is fanfiction. In fact, religious people are the most hardcore fans of them all!

If anything, your interpretation is likely less off-the-rails than theirs.
