You can always check AlternativeTo for FOSS (and non-US based) software alternatives.
I've found myself using this a whole lot. It really is great for finding foss and / or non-US alternatives.
I have started constibuting to the AlternativeTo data and added many apps (mostly foss) over the years. It is a great platform with a great team and community.
But it still is a business and for now I'm fine with it being that.
