Looking up the creator, she seems fairly based, but this feels off, reminds me way too strongly of how the rest of lemmy routinely accuses trans hexbear users of being Russian trolls with fake pronouns.

Admittedly I have seen more "I'm a queer palestinian who suffered under sharia law and here's why I believe Israel is good actually". Friend of mine got 6 identical comments like this when he said something critical of Israel on reddit

all of them are named Abdul

How is that relevant here? Are you saying when somebody does pinkwashing that excuses repeating and legitimizing transphobia to criticize a different organization?

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

No I called it pinkwashing because that's what the meme is highlighting. I've seen this kind of stuff in various spaces too

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

well, it turned out the meme was originally made by a trans woman and had a different bottom panel and then somebody took her work and edited it like this and that just feels incredibly gross to me.

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

Well that happens online, people edit memes all the time.

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Had the same feeling. It doesn't even make sense, because cis people never listen to us anyway, unless we pander to their transphobic biases

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah exactly. Pinkwashing always centers the marketable, bourgeoisified, assimilated part of the queer community, it's never the rough and wild and radical queers because that's just not how PR works. How many trans people make that cut? Do people seriously think the average trans person is somebody like Brianna Wu or Buck Angel? Do they think i'm mfing ContraPoints sipping on wine coolers by my cembalo? This site regularly makes me wonder if anybody here has ever knowingly talked to a trans person irl or spent any time in queer spaces, even online ones besides hexbear and reddit, and that includes half of the trans userbase.

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's not about what cis people think, it's about what's convenient for them.

"Normal" trans person getting even just slightly upset by the shit they said to them? Inconvenient and uncomfortable for them. You'd have to rethink your transphobic biases and overcome the "icky" feeling, or, goddess behold, apologize to them.

Buck Angel type that fully agrees with all the dumb shit you say about them? Convenient and relatable. Just keep dishing out your hot takes and have fun feeling superior while the inferior life form pats you on the back, without having to fear any awkwardness whatsoever.

This is also the reason why cis people constantly complain about having to walk on eggshells around us and why they lash out so aggressively whenever we even just slightly criticise them: They only care about their comfort. Their comfort trumps all, especially our well-being. Doesn't matter if the things we say are true, because admitting that they were wrong about us leads to them feeling awkward, and we can't have that, right?

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I agree and i'd take it a step further, the entire reason why assimilation works on an individual level (and at the expense of the entire rest of the community) is that most people need to be told they're morally integer and to be absolved of their complicity in an obviously godawful and violent system. And when one of the good ones tells them "no, it's ok to joke about that, you're alright, you're not transphobic / racist / homophobic / misogynist etc. etc.", it reduces friction, it means they can go on with less cognitive dissonance burdening them.

The assimilationist is a tool for the psychological hygiene of dominant society, like a medieval monk handing out allowances.

I don't get it, always seemed weird to me that people would base their entire gender on letting a doctor look at their junk for 3 seconds and then go with whatever estimate they made based entirely on that.

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (4 children)

but this feels off,

the text in the second panel isn't the original text, notice how one is crusty and the other isn't

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Meme scientists up in here

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

This was altered for sure but this is also the only version I could find with a signature so it might still be from Lilith.

The earliest version I could find is this

CIA agents in 1964: Castro's in for the surprise of his life when he tries to sign something with my POISON PEN! CIA agents in 2024: "@libcrusher The phrase 'working class' is ableist and promotes eugenics because it positions disabled people and workers as enemies."

[–] piccolo@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

this is the one that I've seen the most before and the one that I assumed was the original

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah I've seen this one before too

Font size and compression artifacts check out too

[–] Fayne@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's edited, there was something else on the original, but I forgot what it was

I've looked it up and found two other versions posted to tumblr by different accounts (coolxatu and theconstellationsinyourskin). Notably, none of them include trans people, which makes sense given that the creator and both of these accounts are trans themself and probably aware that arguing like that is at least really, really off.

Anyway, here's the other versions, i'll leave it to others to further research which is the original:

[–] h0ll0w5p4c3@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

It's pretty common to edit a template

thanks for pointing that out

I, for one, love our Russian troll comrades and respect their pronouns.
