Palmer Luckey of Anduril is teaming with Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences to launch Warhound, a startup dedicated to genetically engineering and cloning dogs for service in war, police work and first responder work.

Speaking to Wired, Lamm explained that the project was twofold. One part of the project would oversee the genetic engineering and cloning of the ideal dogs for war, and the other would develop tech for them to use on battlefields.

TF is it with these tech lord trash taking LOTR names for businesses? Anduril, Palantir, etc?

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"The Palantir stones themselves cannot lie, but powerful users like Sauron can selectively control what is shown to trick or break the will of others (such as Denethor or Saruman)."

Almost like a confession. It is like some idiot read 1984 and decided it is in humanity's best interest to install the goverment in the book, completely senseless and sociopathic.

Same thing with the Metaverse. Zuck definitely thinks he can be Hiro Protagonist if the global economy falls apart and everything is controlled by corpostates.

You know the Nazis were obsessed with esoteric fairytales? It’s like that

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah. Good point. They tried rewriting them to fit their narrative, though.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Seems kind of the same here no?

They think they are high elves while we are hobbits. They want to rule the world. They have actually proven that you can have a level of money that everyone will indulge your mental illness.

Anyone else would have been shot for infiltrating the government with plans to end the world but we live in HELL AND NO ONE GIVES A FUCK OR WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

"Don't look up" was the most accurate portrayals of our stupid species ever written

And before everyone praises the glorious corporate Dems, Palmer Lucky and his gross company mostly support Democrats and Palmer and Musk are completely integrate in our Army with drones, ranks, and military units that have committed multiple suspicious suicides.

Tolkien would be spinning in his grave at the thought of this. It’s against everything he believed in.

When people mispronounce the names (as they usually do) I don’t correct them, out of respect for the Professor.

Turns out nerds liked LOTR when younger or perhaps still do, who'd've thunk it

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Do they still qualify as nerds if they’re the antithesis to the morals in the story they nerdrd over?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Honestly, good question. Does having to be an X nerd mean you should agree with the morals of X and if you become a millionaire, does that invalidate nerddom?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 2 days ago

No. A nerd is a nerd, but they can be socialized in optimal and suboptimal ways.

If you’re the one supporting ripping up the forest of Ents to make room for a datacenter…yes, you lose your nerd card. You are now Saruman, corrupted to the will of evil to further one’s own power.
