Many countries include 'Democratic' or 'People's' in their names, even though they are not democratic and do not serve their people. Examples: Democratic People's Republic of Korea Lao People's Democratic Republic People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Democratic Republic of the Congo And German Democratic Republic (East Side) in 1949–1990. None of these states are democratic, power and wealth are concentrated in the hands of a small ruling elite. Who are they fooling with these names?

Same reason capitalist oligarchies have Republic or Democratic. Sounds better.

Probably for the same reasons you do not visit the forum, do not own slaves, and let women vote. You have a different understanding of democracy than the ancient Greeks. That is how it is with them too.

The people are democratic.

The government, not so much.

It's an introductory lie. It supposed to get you used to lying.

It doesn't work on everybody. You must be one of "THOSE".

So that absolute morons can say stuff like "the Nazis were socialist, it's right there in their name"

"Neither democratic, nor the people's, nor a republic."

They fool nobody. They're taking the piss.

Any entity involved with food which explicitly claims to be gourmet is objectively not.

Any hotel with the word luxury in it's name

I mean the stuff that is produced within the country is produced by the people. So it's people's stuff, in the same sense that milk is cow's milk. It's not for the cow, but from the cow.

Feat of mental gymnastics. They consider themselves a looser sense of democratic that isn't a liberal multiparty democracy with competitive elections. With a twist of idealization, they rationalize that their dictatorship of the proletariat headed by a one-party leader serves the people: their bottom-up hierarchy of councils culminates to their single-party leadership whose final decisions (that close discussion and demand absolute obedience) somehow reflect the collective/people. They might call it democratic centralism or dress it up in more elaborate pseudotheoretical jargon.

It's the same as when a food item says "gourmet" something. 100% it's crap.

They want the people to feel like it's for their own good. DPRK and China aren't oppressive, they're PROTECTING you from the evils of the world by controlling every aspect of your life.

Shit was comical when China officially came to the US to protest the banning of TicTok and acted like they didn't own it indirectly. Then talked about how America is oppressive, while TikToc is blocked in their own country along with anything Google, FB, encrypted messaging, the Internet in general. It's like Hitler trying to procicute a shop lifter on the basis they'a worse person.

Usually, they are rebranding after a revolution with the goal to establish a democratic or communist government. But then the inherent weakness of those forms of government leads to internal instability due to outside influence and/or internal corruption. The new and unexperienced government gets more and more extreme in an attempt to defend or due to simple greed. The original idea becomes more and more distant until not even a faint shadow of it is left.
