One of the cool ideas of "web3" is that your accounts are in the browser, not the sites. So you would have cryptographic keys that would act as your account across Web sites.
I wish the idea would gain traction beyond just cryptocurrency projects/dapps.
Then that facilitates tracking and fingerprinting with the same account being used everywhere? Or I understand it wrong
You would be able to choose if you share that information. You can use separate keys for separate sites if you want. I'm not really sure how this idea would make the current situation any worse.
If anything, it's less PII than you would normally use to create accounts.

no, but i've done that before. there are websites/apps where you can make a temporary number.
Especially on services or websites I think I will be using once in my life.
What about visiting IMDB while being signed into amazon and then being informed that you now have an account on IMDB and oh yeah now you're getting marketing emails...

You can thank AI for that. Sites are trying to prevent all their content from being scraped by AI, and requiring a login to even view anything is one way to do that.
