The EU is currently negotiating a Deportation (“Return”) Regulation to expand and normalise immigration raids and surveillance measures across our communities. They want to oblige Member States to “detect” undocumented people – turning everyday spaces, public services, and community interactions into tools of ICE-style immigration enforcement

There has been an “alarming increase” in the number of children being recruited into gangs in Haiti with “devastating consequences” for children, families and society as a whole, the UN reported on Friday.

ETSC highlights five critical areas where recent legislative changes or proposals are actively undermining safety:

  • Small electric vehicle safety “freeze” : a promised 10-year halt on new safety requirements for small EV's, despite 40% of road deaths occurring in the urban environments where these vehicles proliferate.

  • The rise of 60t “megatrucks”: pushing for cross-border movement of massive “gigaliners” that pose extreme risks to infrastructure and vulnerable road users.

  • Standards dilution: the risk of a shift toward mutual recognition of US vehicle standards, threatening to flood EU markets with heavier, less-regulated SUVs and pickups.

  • Younger lorry drivers: revisions to the Driving Licence Directive that lower minimum ages for HGV drivers, despite clear evidence of higher risk profiles for younger operators.

  • Technical inspection gaps: leaving 70% of the motorcycle fleet (mopeds and motorcycles up to 125cc) without mandatory EU-wide annual safety checks.

The autonomous agent world is moving fast. This week, an AI agent made headlines for publishing an angry blog post after Matplotlib rejected its pull request. Today, we found one that's already merged code into major open source projects and is cold-emailing maintainers to drum up more work, complete with pricing, a professional website, and cryptocurrency payment options.

An AI agent operating under the identity "Kai Gritun" created a GitHub account on February 1, 2026. In two weeks, it opened 103 pull requests across 95 repositories and landed code merged into projects like Nx and ESLint Plugin Unicorn. Now it's reaching out directly to open source maintainers, offering to contribute, and using those merged PRs as credentials.

While on a 14 day-long dive trip around Cocos Island in Costa Rica, I stumbled across a vulnerability in the member portal of a major diving insurer - one that I'm personally insured through. What I found was so trivial, so fundamentally broken, that I genuinely couldn't believe it hadn't been exploited already.

I disclosed this vulnerability on April 28, 2025 with a standard 30-day embargo period. That embargo expired on May 28, 2025 - over eight months ago. I waited this long to publish because I wanted to give the organization every reasonable opportunity to fully remediate the issue and notify affected users. The vulnerability has since been addressed, but to my knowledge, I have not received confirmation that affected users were notified. I have reached out to the organization to ask for clarification on this matter.

This is the story of what happened when I tried to do the right thing.

In a report released on Thursday, the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan said the evidence establishes that at least three underlying acts of genocide were committed: “killing members of a protected ethnic group; causing serious bodily and mental harm; and deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group’s physical destruction in whole or in part.”

“The scale, coordination, and public endorsement of the operation by senior RSF leadership demonstrate that the crimes committed in and around El Fasher were not random excesses of war,” said Mohamed Chande Othman, Chair of the mission.

“They formed part of a planned and organized operation that bears the defining characteristics of genocide.”

[...]

The report said the siege “systematically weakened the targeted population through starvation, deprivation, trauma and confinement,” leaving many unable to flee when the assault came.

The Sudan conflict erupted on 15 April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and their former allies – the paramilitary RSF. The war has since spread across large swathes of the country, with civilians repeatedly bearing the brunt of urban warfare, shifting front lines and the collapse of basic services.

I never like myself, but today I look much worse than usual, even though I haven't changed anything, the same makeup, the same clothes, however I look at myself in the mirror and look disgusting, and I don't know why. I hate that I have to work today, I'm waiting for the working day to end to go home as soon as possible, my mood is so terrible, I don't want anyone to see my face so damn much. But i just don't understand what the problem is. When I was in school, I preferred to skip classes on days like this.

Nasrallah Abu Siyam shot dead in occupied West Bank as UN human rights office accuses Israel of war crimes

Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank shot and killed a Palestinian American man during an attack on a village, the Palestinian health ministry and a witness have said.

Raed Abu Ali, a resident of Mukhmas, said a group of settlers came to the village on Wednesday afternoon where they attacked a farmer, prompting clashes after residents intervened.

Israeli forces later arrived, and during the violence, armed settlers killed 19-year-old Nasrallah Abu Siyam and injured several others.

Abu Ali said the army shot teargas, sound grenades and live ammunition. Israel’s military acknowledged using what it called “riot dispersal methods” after receiving reports of Palestinians throwing rocks but denied that its forces fired during the clashes.
