What is Lemmy?

Lemmy is a selfhosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top.

Think of it as an opensource alternative to reddit!

Would you rather a Chinese-owned TikTok or one run by a consortium of Trump-supporting billionaires?

That’s the choice Australia is being asked to consider.

The Trump administration has outlined that a proposed deal for TikTok to remain in operation in the United States would transfer the control of TikTok’s US operations to a US company that will have seven seats on the board, with six filled by Americans. Donald Trump has suggested a consortium of US businesses, including Larry Ellison’s Oracle and Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch’s Fox Corporation, are involved in the deal.

Ok, on a thread about how psychiatric hospitals are getting gobbled up by private equity, and treatment standards are plummetting, I say, that if you actually wanna stop this, you have to overthrow the government and abolish corporations, otherwise, you're complicit.

Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to get into a discussion about tacit vs explicit consent to be governed, or anything like that.

Here's the post url again:

https://sh.itjust.works/post/46618629

But uh, yeah, jawbone all you like, don't change nothin' in a fascist state.

So, then after a brief exchange, where I remind pele that his retort he tried on me last time I said something like that of 'Where are you from / You're not American', I remind him of the last time we danced that dance.

Here's that older exchange, for context:

https://sh.itjust.works/post/45775934/20923933

He then thanks me for that reminder, deletes my original comment, bans me from his comm.

Problem: He banned me for "rule 5, promoting violence".

Here's rule 5 on the sidebar:

Here's the instance rules:

Nothing about advocating violence.

I would also go so far as to say that uh, he intervened and made an uncivil comment.

... Am I... missing some hidden rules... somewhere?

Also... did I explicitly promote violence?

By saying:

"Overthrow the government. Abolish corporations."

???

Is it impossible to do many nonviolent things to pressure a regime to change, a major policy to be reworked, with a sufficient amount of people?

Anyway, yep, there we go, I submit this to the evaluation of fellow m@teys and any other interested passersby.

bonus

pele, if you show up here, I Iiterally do not care what you have to say, I have blocked you to improve my lemmy experience.

YouTube announced it will restore thousands of channels that were previously banned for violating its COVID-19 and election integrity policies[^1]. This decision came in a 28-page letter from Alphabet to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on September 23, 2025[^7].

The company acknowledged that Biden administration officials had pressured YouTube to remove content "that did not violate its policies," which Alphabet called "unacceptable and wrong"[^1][^7]. YouTube's current guidelines now permit a "wider range of content" regarding COVID-19 and elections[^1].

Notable figures who could return include Dan Bongino (now FBI Deputy Director), White House counterterrorism chief Sebastian Gorka, and others who were banned for discussing COVID-19 or election claims[^14]. The platform will offer terminated creators a process to rejoin if they were banned for violating policies that are no longer in effect[^7].

As part of this change, YouTube will also ban the use of official fact-checkers on its platform, instead launching a feature similar to X's "Community Notes" that allows users to provide context on videos[^7].

[^7]: Deseret News - YouTube restores accounts that were censored over COVID-19 and 2020 election claims

[^14]: Washington Examiner - YouTube content creators no longer banned over political speech

Is that intended?

Trump’s record suggests that meetings with him frequently fail. Instead, Albanese has an important agenda to pursue at the UN in New York, and when dealing with the US better outcomes are more likely if Australia develops its own policies in its own interests.

There is no productive bilateral relationship to be had with Trump's USA.
