With all the supply chain attacks in the Linux ecosystem, isn’t the natural solution to move to full application sandboxing?

Flatpacking is great but not all applications support it.

Is it too much of a hassle?

I started looking into email alias services like SimpleLogin, Addy, etc. and I'm wondering if I really need it. Here's why:

My email provider has domain alias functionality. I can connect multiple domains to it. Let's say I'm ratm@domain1.com.

I can buy domain2.com and create an email address called anon@domain2.com. All emails (to both addresses) will land in the same inbox.

I can also create a catch-all email address so that I can create login unique emails for each service, like: lemmy@domain2.com, mastodon@domain2.com, etc.

So I guess my question is: What do I get from an email alias service that I'm not already getting from my email provider?

Is it maybe that I won't be able to reply from the service emails? Like, would I not be able to reply from lemmy@domain2.com since it's only a catch-all? So I can receive mail to it, but can't send from it?

LinkedIn locked me out of my own account. The only way back is through Persona — a third-party service that wants a photo of my passport, a scan of my face, and a recording of my movements (liveness detection: turn your head, follow the dot, so a still photo can't stand in for me). The stated reason: "unusual activity." The real reason, of course, is big tech spearheading a movement toward absolute control over people.

I switched from Gmail to Proton, but now with everything coming out about Proton I'm switching from them too. I started using Posteo which I like but a lot of my accounts having to do with money and finance (including my bank) aren't accepting the Posteo email. They have rejected it over and over and even locked me out stating that I was hacked.

Do you guys have any recommendations for email providers to use that also won't send red flags to my more official accounts?

Great news! The newest FreeTube update, which came out today, fixed the issues of videos not loading.

That question came up to me, when recently working on one project I needed to restart my PC several times. And therefore, while I used 3-5 web apps I needed to log back in to each one of them again, after each restart. And I started wondering if privacy-wise that auto-clear feature is worth it or not? Has anyone maybe tested that?

Saw this come up new on F-Droid and thought I'd throw this out there for people looking for an alternative to AppVerifier that has a larger database and more features.

Why do companies that position themselves as privacy forward support bad ppl, bad ideas, and misinformation?

I recently found out Brave, FUTO, and Proton and have supported shady characters.

Are there any others?

I didn't think it would be so hard to get away from big tech and privacy invasion.

Once I find a privacy and security focused product/app/service I like, I find out they support right wing extremists in one way or another.

I am sick and tired of these companies and these stupid governments and I’m also tired of the people who continue to let it happen. I am asking you guys, what more can I do? What more can be done? I think I’m facing a privacy fatigue.

I use mainly foss apps or “sideloaded” apps when possible, I take a lot of precautions for my privacy and try to cut the leak of my data at the roots. And have gotten to a point where I can’t find my name on data brothers websites. I’ve done almost everything that is recommended except for privacy phone and self hosting (which I already got into). I genuinely enjoy these things and love learning how it works but this fight does take a toll.

I’ve contributed as much as possible and are asking you guys what else can I do? I use foss apps, donate when financially feasible (mainly crypto if they have it), share the apps and even made my parents move to some, and even sent letters to representatives (even under my parents and siblings). Only thing I haven’t done is contribute code which I plan on doing soon since I’m learning and it’s a field I’m interested in. I wish I can protest but there aren’t protest anywhere close to me. I want to continue the fight but sometimes I do get tired of the news and the laws and the companies and I end up asking myself what else can I do?

I am not saying I want to give up, I’m actually the opposite but I have noticed a toll on my mental. Is this just me? Or have you guys also noticed and felt this way. I just want for everyone to get together and protest the absolute shit out of these people and get them out of here. I do think this country (usa) is so divided that I don’t see Gen Z protest like those in Nepal, Indo, Philippines, etc happening here and it saddens me. Just wish everyone can come together but if we did that, how else would they control us right?

Just makes me mad and tired that’s all I’m saying. Sorry if I repeated myself but I hope you get the message I’m saying. Maybe I just need a friend to talk to.
