NZ first are on to something with their bill for much harsher penalties for people who own dogs that attack someone, it happens far too often, and owners are far too casual about the damage a dog can do.

Also, good to see the same quotes you always hear after a dog attack. They're such sweet dogs, this hasn't happened before, they're great with the baby, etc.

I'm sick of reading the same story every other year.

"There was an incident a few months ago where police were searching a neighbouring property and they wanted to come over on to this property to search for whoever they were chasing and they pepper-sprayed the dogs and ever since then they've really not been the same. They've been more reactive.

The cops pepper sprayed the dogs. That's the fucking reason. ACAB.

"She's a good dog owner. They're usually very obedient, they're respectful dogs, they ask before they eat or get on the couch or anything," she said.

"They ran out there yelling at the dogs to stop and that might have enhanced the excitement at the time,"

Yeah, that's not good ownership. You don't yell excitedly at dogs to calm them down, you calmly tell your dogs to calm down. Especially if they've recently been traumatized by bastard pigs.

It might surprise a lot of dog owners that they don't actually understand words, just the tone of your voice and the context. Yeah they might recognize the first syllable of their name and some simple words like treat, walk, eat, etc., but they don't understand calm down. Especially if you're yelling it...

To me, the owners are good people but they never put in the time to actually learn how to responsibly own and live with a dog; it's a bit more complex then just pretending they're a toddler. Even so, I blame the cops for this incident. It wouldn't have happened if they fuckers didn't pepper spray them.

I used to be ACAB all day. I've got it tattooed on my arm (we're all young once). I loathed the cops more than anything. But then I starred to notice a shift. The NZ police have made a genuine effort to change over the last 10-15 years. I know Andrew Coster messed up badly recently but I think he did good as commissioner.

Yeah there are still pigs, but there shit people in every bunch, can't help that.

There's recent corruption stuff too but they are actively working on that and they prosecute their own when they mess up badly.

I'd much rather a dog was pepoer sprayed than shot dead like they do in the states. We don't know how lucky we are to not have a police force like USA. Obviously they aren't perfect, far from it, but I believe they are good and want to help.
