NZ homelessness worst in history (www.salvationarmy.org.nz)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by BaconWrappedEnigma@lemmy.nz to c/newzealand@lemmy.nz

The Salvation Army’s second six-monthly survey of housing support providers, along with other data related to homelessness, reveals alarming trends: Homelessness is increasing across nearly all communities, with no area reporting a decline. Access to emergency housing is becoming increasingly restricted, with a 386% rise since August 2024 in Ministry of Social Development (MSD) rejections citing that people had ‘contributed to their own homelessness’.

Terrible title; that is not what the article says.

Government rejections are up 386% since August 24; because they are arseholes....homelessness itself is not up by that much.

Don't sensationalise; the headline numbers are bad enough without trying to make it sound worse.

1 in a 1000 kiwis are now homeless; that is nearly 6,000 people; highest since measurements began......

There are 57,000 women who are homeless; or in housing that is not much better. Couch surfing; garages; substandard housing or even "uninhabitable" housing. There are 33,000 kids in the same situation with these women.

Do you mean it's a terrible title for people that don't read?

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Basically.

A lot of people don't read articles.

Better title: NZ homelessness worst in history.

I was able to update the title! You were right; after looking at it with the image and blurb that were added.
