My hypothesis is that lemmings grew up thinking it's normal having to launch a program that will connect to the internet and do all kinds of checks and telemetry recordings, even check what else I have running on my machine, just so I can launch the program I actually want to launch while this other one is consuming my battery and RAM in the background.
Fuck Steam.
I can relate here, i've never had Steam or any such service ever. Same with TV, I don't watch / need TV, don't use netflix, itunes, or any of that junk. Then again I'm 52 years old, and i've always pirated everything. And so the concept of steam is literally alien to me.
Old man pirate here too. Arrrrr
While I understand your ways, Steam is nice. And you do get the files.
Give it a go! Paying small sums for convenience is nice.
I have to be honest here, I never will.
Having to download, install and run their launcher just so I can download, install and run the game I want to play is a huge inconvenience for me. I'd rather pay a small sum on GOG and just actually have the game instead of leasing it.
U don’t need their launcher to run games. You have the exe. It puts in start menu and desktop optionally.
Unless you’re curling your games onto your drive, you’re already using an application to download a game. All you’re looking at with Steam is having a game-library-aware application that’s downloading the game.
You actually need for most games unless you cracked them or they are DRMfree and got no integration, their client opens and run in the background when you launch the game.
For GOG the only application you need is a web browser, you download the games directly from the site and don't need to install or have anything else running. For me a launcher is just bloat, I can browse my library just fine on the site without having to install any program.
My point is that you installed a browser.
And you installed a browser AND a launcher. I win :P
(don't tell me you don't have a browser on your PC)
I actually wrote a rant last month when Steam fans were saying Sony was bad for dropping physical games? What? How many physical games they bought from Steam?
"Maybe you are dying to give old man Gabe a sloppy, but what about the shareholders taking the company after him?"
ps: the image isn't even about physical games but DRM, that thing Google just pulled with people that bought digital Lord of the Rings, guess what, Steam has the same powers. Pay for DRMed stuff, allow this market to exist, get fucked.

You have to know there's a difference between discontinuing physical sales for unclear reasons and never offering them at all.
sounds like Sony would have been a good guy if never offered at all...
