Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1919 readers
89 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I caught a mod at Late Stage Capitalism admitting they aren't from the US, so they deleted all my posts and banned me.

That said, they also didn't say they were not from US. Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you're from the US.

But they were also saying that they could see, implying they weren't. They also suddenly stopped replying to that chain of comments when I directly asked if they were from the US. They continued replying to other comments of mine though. It definitely set off alarm bells for me.

I understand that setting off alarm bells, but if they were contemplating banning you for questioning their identity I don't think its that weird to disengage as well. I considered setting a "no accusations of being a bot or paid actor" myself at one point and I was considering it because everything after that point in a comment chain is invariably toxic and carries an implicit demand to dox yourself to regain trust.

I don't want to just creative writing their life, but I could see someone who had moved to the US later in life using that phrasing and not thinking anything of it, or someone who is from Canada and is heavily affected by what we do down here and also in proximity to witness it. Idk, just feel like you came on a bit strong on that one, I wouldn't ban you myself. The comms rules are pretty clear on what they are about, so I would block it in your shoes.
