Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1919 readers
171 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I caught a mod at Late Stage Capitalism admitting they aren't from the US, so they deleted all my posts and banned me.

My god, the evil foreigners have opinions on our politics! Who gives a fuck where they're from. You got banned for being a nuisance.

You also forgot the first rule of a united front, it has to be explicitly anti-fascist. Democrats are not anti-fascist, anti-fascists do not support fascist states like Israel. A united front has hard red lines that cannot be crossed DESPITE its ideological hodgepodge. You are only part of the united front so long as you do not cross those lines.

ydi. how is it relevant where someone lives (unless the comm is only for americans, which it isn't), except to imply that because they aren't american, they can't be trusted? the blight on lemmy world isn't the token socialists being critical of us politics, it's the democrats who can't accept totally legit criticisms of their party, and jump directly to mccarthyism, which helps prove the criticism is valid imo.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (15 children)

that's not the problem, the problem is his distinct and repeated calls for people to not participate in the process - which is a great way to lose elections. do you want more trump? no?

THEN FUCKING VOTE

love all the fucking chuds 'downvoting' literal encouragement for people to vote lol, the irony is hilarious.

[–] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yep I just realized I got banned and messages deleted from that guy when I was criticizing people pushing to not vote dem in the upcoming elections... that's why we are stuck with the shit stain trump.

Rule 1: do not make calls for elections in anarchist comms.

[–] convectionfusion@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

That's nowhere in the rules - they're RIGHT THERE ----------------->

My problem with GodlessCommie isn't that he's not American. My problem is he is the sole mod of a relatively popular sub and tries to dissuade people from voting and bans anyone that doesn't support his narrative.

He's stupid, and dangerous.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

it really upsets me when they try to rewrite history. the molotov ribbentrop pact happened. and how could the soviets have 'single handedly' stopped the nazis without BILLIONS of US aide (that wasn't repaid until 2006!!!) AND the allies opening the western front?

like, fuck, this isn't some controversy, this is history.... so that's my limit, people are entitled to their own interpretations but when you stop acknowledging what happened, nah, fuck off

I have 3 things to say:

  1. This is evidence? I can't understand how this user 'admits' whatever you are claiming.

  2. As far I have read, the community info doesn't mention anything about being US only or US centric.

  3. It is very xenophobic of you to think that a person not from the US must be a propagandist. We are people too. And the US meddled in our affairs first, and is still meddling.

But he neither admits nor even actually implies he dies not live in the US.

YDI.

You can't talk about LSC without talking about American politics (America is the capitalist hegemon ffs). There isnt another country on the planet that is more representative of late stage capitalism.

[–] cristian64@reddthat.com 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm failing to see how those words imply that they don't live in the US. I think it's an expression that someone from a country could use while talking to someone from the same country.

Gee... you "caught" somebody not living in the US?

That must have been quite the eye-opener for you.

[–] punkisundead@slrpnk.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why is the mods location relevant? Are they actively trying to leave the impressiony that they are US based?

PTB anyway

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago (23 children)

They post almost exclusively US centric political content focused on convincing people that both sides are the same and voting is pointless. IMO, that is malicious in its intent.

The funniest part is that I was banned for rule 6 which includes accusing another user of being a foreign propagandist, even though that is literally what one of the mods is doing.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

That's why it is against the rules 😉

Well this is silly. The mod of that comm certainly seems to enjoy getting in fights. So modlog says you are banned for Rule 6 which relates to calling someone Tankie, Russian Bot, etc.

Be civil in comments and no accusations of being a bot, ‘paid by Putin,’ Tankie, etc. This includes instance shaming.

I think implying they were lying about where they are living does sort of fall under that, but its a reach.

That said, they also didn't say they were not from US. Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you're from the US. Nonsense, and obviously logically inconsistent, but not an admission. They also might be an immigrant of some kind, their post history mentions travelling in Texas and other states, so they have by their own words at least been to the US.

I would say its a wash. Ban was a bit of a powertrip unless they revise their rule 6 to explicitly include implications of false identity, but also this is right at the top of the rules and jumping to they're a foreign propagandist is silly on a global platform.

That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.

Why not just block the comm and move on? From what I've seen of your profile I can't imagine a sub with that rule is going to be a good time for you.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That said, they also didn't say they were not from US. Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you're from the US.

But they were also saying that they could see, implying they weren't. They also suddenly stopped replying to that chain of comments when I directly asked if they were from the US. They continued replying to other comments of mine though. It definitely set off alarm bells for me.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

I understand that setting off alarm bells, but if they were contemplating banning you for questioning their identity I don't think its that weird to disengage as well. I considered setting a "no accusations of being a bot or paid actor" myself at one point and I was considering it because everything after that point in a comment chain is invariably toxic and carries an implicit demand to dox yourself to regain trust.

I don't want to just creative writing their life, but I could see someone who had moved to the US later in life using that phrasing and not thinking anything of it, or someone who is from Canada and is heavily affected by what we do down here and also in proximity to witness it. Idk, just feel like you came on a bit strong on that one, I wouldn't ban you myself. The comms rules are pretty clear on what they are about, so I would block it in your shoes.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago (10 children)

OP was all over that thread spreading lib nonsense and directly accusing OOP of being a foreigner trying to manipulate US politics (for an implied ulterior motive). Especially being on .world, it's a hard comm to keep clean, so the mods don't have much tolerance before banning libs

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago

Ah yeah, despite looking at comm and the profiles I still missed that 😅 Definitely a case where both the mods and the poster will be happier not interacting.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

I know a lot of people disagree with my politics, but he literally told me that Democrats are Republicans and that fascism has no definition. I mean, come on! That's just denying objective reality.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago (23 children)

Saying that democrats are republicans is a silly way to word that, and pointing out the non-static nature of fascism is an interesting choice when you can just point to how Democrats are fascist, but the point stands that democrats are a right wing party and that they actively advance fascism

Just that you wouldnt be able to see the point because you’re from the US.

Given the context it seems more like an argument contradicting OP's earlier point that some author lived through fascist Italy, saying that this does not imply credibility, deducing that from OP's supposed ignorance despite also living in a fascist state. I wouldn't call it a good argument, but it's not one that can't be made as someone in the US.

I don't see how that shows the mod is a foreign propagandist.

Every permutation of LSC I've ever seen has been extremely defeatist to the point of coming off as vaguely accelerationist, though. Wouldn't be surprised if that's an intern at the GOP.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Pigs, shit, etc.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (23 children)

The late stage capitalism sub is a tankie shitstain on this server. I really don't understand why the admins let these idiots run wild here.
