Don’t listen to the audio. You can’t unhear it.
^ ^ ^ ^ Take this advice! I can still hear the sounds of a terrorist decapitation video I watched at least 20 years ago.
I've seen a fair few documentaries about aviation crashes. If it's an academic enginering discussion about ice and turbulence makes you forget the people inside the suspended tin can. I feel a bit different this time round.
I didn't know it existed. Now you have basically forced my hand, I've got to listen to it now. I am morbidly curious
her last, cutoff words have been haunting me for at least an hour. and here I was thinking I was desensitized for years.
A video of a plane is somewhat abstract. We know what it means consciously, but there's nothing deep-rooted in our psyches from tens of thousands of years of evolution telling us what it means and speaking directly to the deep, lizard part of the brain. So it's easier to feel desensitized to, especially if you were a kid in the early 2000s.
A human voice hits different. We know what it means. The emotional register hits our lizard brains even if it's in a language we don't understand. There's nothing abstract about it, so it has a much stronger affect.
I listened to the recordings and I cried a little bit but it didn't seem to affect me much otherwise. Maybe there's something wrong with me.
When the sounds come back to you after many years it will confirm you're normal.
Nahhh it’s incredibly sad, but I did not find it to be particularly bad compared to a couple others that come to mind.
I sincerely wish this was the case, I'm jealous, I have been trapped in a thought loop for at least 2 hours now about consciousness and existence and the incomprehensibility of what happens after one dies. I tried to go to bed early but I just kept panicking about the idea of my heart stopping in my sleep. I don't know what's happening but I shouldn't have listened to that audio
Ahhh, yes. I've been through all that thinking years ago. It's a lot to think about for sure.
Death is a rough thing to contemplate. I always zone out for a minute when I hear about someone dying, especially if it was untimely, avoidable, or otherwise tragic.
The history of human thought is full of ways to try to rationalize it or cope with it or even pretend it isn't final. They all seem to carry hints of at least one stage of grief. Contemplating death is like grieving your own mortality in advance, because you know you won't be able to do so after.
To me the most helpful thing (not helpful particularly, but more helpful than the rest) is to let it move you to appreciate life that much more while you still can. Maybe even that's tinged with "Acceptance," but ultimately that's the best possible outcome of grief. There's no better option.
This might not be helpful, but then again nothing is. It's all I can say on the topic though.
After many years I finally believe reincarnation is the most likely scenario after death, and it has pretty much eliminated my fear of death. Now I just don't want it to be horribly unpleasant. In the words of Woody Allen (I know, an unmentionable name, oh well), "I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens."
oh hey so it's not just me who bluescreens at the mere thought of death
Can I help you with anything regarding this, being a person which had exactly that happen?
can I ask what happened?
Sure, I wouldn't have offered it otherwise. Early in the morning my heart stopped, I was lucky and got immediate support, was resuscitated. That's the very short version of it.
Still, I don't have any, fear regarding this, so I thought I might be of help.
I'm glad there was someone to help you
Thank you.
This whole thing was a cascade of very unlikely events. I'm close to survivors guilt with how it all went but luckily not there, too.
ugh same, i got a slightly elevated heart rate for a minute or two but other than that nothing. like, intellectually i know it's a terrifying situation and i should feel empathic, but it just doesn't happen
As someone who's actually desensitized, it's really not that bad lol.
the crash itself didn't really bother me, it was mostly just hearing the recordings of their panic. either way I'm fine now though. I think it was just insomnia driving me mental
Glad to hear you're doing okay!
lol?
Lol = millennial soft-end punctuation mark. Softer than a period, but not excited like an exclamation mark. Still indicates an end of thought, unlike ellipses. Text version of a smirk, which can indicate irony rather than humor.
I feel seen
My bad.
Except if you're one of the people celebrating this because a business jet was mentioned, then please do listen to the audio.
I hope there aren't people like that.....who are we kidding? It's the internet, of course there will be. I just hope I don't see anyone with that stance.
But yes, I'm not American, but very anti-large corporations, but I would not celebrate this. Would I have been happy if the diaper man was on this jet? Yes, but still incredibly sad for the ones that didn't deserve this.
The fuck dude? Pilot and copilot were just normal people doing their job and you can clearly tell they were in distress from the audio. It's not that hard to give an ounce of respect for them and their loved ones.
Which is exactly why I'm advocating for the people celebrating this to listen to said audio.
Ohh, I definitely interpreted your comment wrong first. Sorry
I don't think anyone is celebrating the death of the pilots, I wonder if they knew the conditions were not good for flying but were forced to fly anyway
And for those of us that aren’t weak as fuck, where is that audio?
So fucking tough
Twitter.
It's pretty on par with other airline crash audio. Yeah, super tragic and sad, mostly that things went from "hey, ATC, we're good, but maybe not looking 100% right now..." To falling out of the sky within 30 seconds and dropping so hard they sounded like they might have pulled some Gs trying to bank out of the descent at one point. You can do everything right, and still get messed up. Icing is a real danger, and acts fast.
Any idea who was on board? Sucks we lost a pilot and maybe some other innocents, but seeing a dead 1% would cheer me up a little
Virtue signaling off a plane crash - classy move!!
No idea, other than the co-pilot that was on the comms was one of those brilliant kids that got their license in high school. She was only 20 and had 1300 flight hours.

If they were really rich they probably wouldn't be packed in a small Lear like sardines. They definitely had money to charter a jet, though.
According to the Miami Herald, the ship's tail number was N722BD. FAA registration database shows a fractional ownership registration to a "LR60271 LLC" out of Wilmington Delaware.
Legitimate Business Inc.
I found it pretty easily searching for "Florida plane crash audio". Cnn had a version that cuts out right after it starts to go wrong, the actual one ends with "we're out of time".
It is pretty brutal imo. She knew what was happening and that there was no stopping it, though there was at least some denial. Can't blame her though, going from a routine thing she did regularly, if in a bit of hairy weather, to being in a situation where it was almost certain she would die over a span of seconds. She spent more time knowing it was over than it took for it to go from normal to fucked and all she could do about it was declare an emergency.
Hope quantum immortality is real for her sake and she's currently sitting in the Bahamas waiting for their return flight in a universe where she veered in a slightly different course that missed the worst of it.
Gotta love the smug pride in shitting on others so you can seek out death as entertainment.
A little schadenfreude for the healthcare CEO's choosing profits over paying out health insurance claims people paid into. Or the AI assholes who paid the RAM industry to stop making RAM so they could charge us all for hardware.
Can't really say that fucking care all that much. When your job is to fuck over the public. You can hardly be shocked when they want to see you dead.
