A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Yea, obviously the issue is that people don't have time to go shopping… 🙄
I'm frequently amazed by the things conservatives don't put together.
Surely the people who are still earning less compared to pre-COVID will spend more if shops are open one more day per week ...
This is what happens with conservative governments. They make things worse for everyone under the guise of making things better, while stripping away cultural touchstones.
When Germans worry about their culture being washed away, I don't want them to think about immigrants I want them to think about this and the CDU. Germany is like top 10 places to live in the world, it's doing well in all human centric metrics. But the only thing the news and conservative media focus on is GDP and how rich the rich can get inside our country by pillaging it's people. Don't fall for it!
Conservatives want you to work longer, have less protections as a worker, a harder time going to the doctor, a shorter retirement, and a bigger military so we can make life worse for everyone else in the world while paying fat contracts to the ultra wealthy.
Stop letting them Germany, please I beg you. Vote the CDU out and never let them back in. They will only benefit an even worse party like the AfD and then we will repeat history.
This is only a disadvantage for everyone whos part of the working class and people need to hear it.
If shops are supposed to open on Sundays all infrastructure related to it has to open as well which means tons of peopme have to work on sundays. This hits people with children, meaning you either open child care on sundays as well which means those care persons will aso have to work on sunday.
It also means if you and your partners shifts collide you will not have a single regular day during the week when you see each other.
There is just so many many disadvantages and no real gain with sunday opening. it might be convenient sometimes i don't disagree but if you know stores are closed on sunday you can work around that by planning. You won't starve if you forgot to buy food, you won't die if you can't purchase new trousers for a day.
I know there are already a lot of people having to work on sundays, firefighters, police, museum workers etc. and i do appreciate then doing that but it's completely unneccassary to widen this group and it won't save the economy.
Btw is this economy really struggeling or is it the super reach not paying their part and hording more and more money rather than giving it back?!
I see the point about the regular day together, but so far this regular day cannot really be used effectively. On Sunday you have the time to go buy shoes for your kid or pick up that medicine from the apothecary - but none of them are open. So you end up doing it on weekdays anyway. My first instinct would actually be that this would make life considerably easier for families with two working parents.
You cpuld use the day to go to the public pool, take a hike, visit a playground, learn to fish there is literally thousands of.great options to spend time.
This would make life harder for many.
This is such a stupid argument.
Sunday will become like Saturday, and all the reasons you can't do it on Saturday will become the same reasons you can't do it on Sunday.
Families with two working parents GET FAMILY TIME TOGETHER currently. If you open everything up, you just kill family time.
Especially from the Christian party. But oh well, Merz thinks everyone is lazy anyway so might as well.
Won't drive people to the far right Afd at all...
Paywalled article.
It's just closed for Sunday.
No joke, I've see websites that do that kind of thing. They'll actually turn off features (or the whole site) on non working days.
