What I don’t understand is how anyone is capable of believing that a terribly lit picture of them tugging on their wiener over the toilet is sexually appealing.
Dicks are beautiful when they’re framed with respect. There’s so much variety in size, color, shape… Grindr is a good place to go if you want art references because you’ll see how crazy different guys dicks are from each other. But so few men spend more than 5 seconds thinking about how to properly display their assets.
The way I see it is, guys generally are fine with any pic of women's assets, like lots of girls also send just completely default titty pics and guys eat it up, so they probably think it works in reverse too.
Also there's plenty of women out there who are more interested in other features rather than dicks, meanwhile every straight guy is gonna be fine with any piece of titty or ass a woman shows them pretty much. I've talked to multiple women who didn't care for seeing dick but they loved seeing cum, for example. I agree though, I never understood the point of sending random dick pics, I think guys who do that probably are doing it more for themselves as some kind of fetish rather than to impress women?
As for the Grindr thing, I think that's probably because the audience there is more into seeing dicks than the average woman 🤭 I agree, it is worthwhile to learn that but I understand it's not something that comes naturally to most of us. Before I started hanging out in pornspaces I really had no clue either what women want to see and stuff.

Because due to law of large numbers, it has worked for someone. The 99% who are disgusted by it are just a collateral damage. Of course it might have been a much more artistic picture of a dick, but that gets glossed over.

There might be just ego or inflated self esteem in the play as well.

Really tired of the association between "Canadian" and "polite." Canadian men are terrible at taking pictures of their dicks too, and they share those pics incessantly. Don't let some of them read this and then think to themselves, "I'm polite about my grainy, unfocused, dick pics even if I don't always ask, because I'm Canadian."

It really is rude to compose shots so poorly.
It's like they've never bothered to learn to crank that F-stop while increasing the exposure to get that shallow depth of field. It gives an illusion of depth.
I like to use a 60mm prime lens on an MFT to give it a crop-factor equivalent of 120mm.
And go with a snooted strobe to get that shadow detail. Ring flashes are lazy and have no character.
See, I get you're joking, but I'm not clear if it's because you're a hobbyist who saw an opportunity to info dump a bit for hyperbole, or if you're using that hyperbole to suggest that it is an unrealistic expectation for dick pics to look sexy in any way possible (rather than just a dimly lit, unclear shot of someone's unmaintained and unwashed patchy pubes and greasy dick)
