I thought being on a jury might be quite interesting, until I found out you don't get paid for it. Fuck that, I'm not working for free.

Where are you not being paid? It's always paid here. It's just a lot less than minimum wage (like $75 for the whole shebang no matter how long it lasts).

Depending on how long the trial lasts, that wouldn't even cover travel expenses.

That's effectively working for free.

I forget the minimum length, but my state also gives a per diem if the trial is longer than a certain number of days. But like some one else said, it's only like $12/day. Like barely enough to cover a lunch. IDK if they feed you tho. I have never actually had to go; I'm always cut during the "call in and check your group number" phase. The paperwork details payment; doesn't say much about food, travel, or any of that.
