If you see a guillotine and immediately assume it’s for you, maybe you should reconsider some life choices. Because the vast majority of people would see a guillotine and go “oh that’s fucking cool” instead of assuming it was there specifically for them.

Because the vast majority of people would see a guillotine and go “oh that’s fucking cool”

They might also go "that's concerning". Most people aren't great fans of violence, so the implication of a violent device might worry them.

But they still wouldn't go "they're coming for me", unless they have a persecution complex and genuinely think someone's out to get them.

Most of the latter group would be wrong.

If there's anything we can depend upon, it's the Willamette Valley interdiction to meeting corporate greed, and I love it. Represent. I'm there.

Edit: it's a valley and not a velley. My phone is dumb, but apparently you guys get it.

Goddamned proud of my community.

I am truly grateful for our collectivism. This is home, because I know I always have family and will fight tooth and claw to maintain that.

LOL! Thank you France for developing an angled blade. Although the horizontal blade may not be a bad idea for the murdering bastards.

[–] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 17 hours ago

Allegedly it was originally horizontal and the angled blade was actually Louis XVI's idea. So, good on him for making his own death less painful I guess

Sorry, bit of an amateur here. What's the difference between the angled and straight blades? Besides the angling of course. Is one more efficient than the other?

Again, my apologies for my ignorance, most of my decapitations are done with chainswords.

EDIT: Everyone, thank you so much for the explanations. That's what I love, physics lessons alongside socio-political reformation!

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 7 points 15 hours ago

think of cutting food in your kitchen. slicing cuts better than chopping. an angled blade is similar to a slicing motion.

really it's more that the cut starts at a smaller area than all at once.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I believe that an angled blade would create a more thorough cut as it's a smaller point of contact for cutting. So it'll cut through ligaments, maybe even vertebrae. Where as a flat one it is initially a small point that gets bigger which requires more force to go through the neck further.

[–] SuperEars@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

This got me imagining a guillotine-ing that is narrated by the How It's Made people.

Watch as the metal blade slices through the skin with supreme ease, then continues on through the main muscles of the neck etc?

[–] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 2 points 17 hours ago

My understanding is the angled blade introduces a force more like slicing and chopping at the same time

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

I have a bike. I don't have a guillotine yet. New life goal unlocked!

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

I'm thinking about making one. It's probably not that hard.
