From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

And of course I'm installing Linux on it. Install went well, even the fingerprint sensor built in to the laptop works.

Mostly this will be a school and DND machine but always nice to have a functional laptop for whatever else I may need it for.

Right on! I've been using a refurbished t14s for years. Which one did you catch?

Edit: nvm, I see it's a T480. Solid choice!

In general, business class laptops out of date are great value. Love my bathtub T440p (replace clunkpad and TN screen, 3 drives baby) and T580 (get the dock if you can).

Hell yeah. I somewhat recently bought a refurbished T490 and it's one of my favorite computers I've ever owned.

Same!

I had bought it, installed Debian on it, and had been using it for more than a week before I discovered that it has a touchscreen :-D

Very nice laptop.

It's not a real ThinkPad if it doesn't have a keyboard frontlight.

Edit: Downvoting this joke is proof that I have more ThinkPad cred than you.
