I laughed way too hard at that. Thank you, I needed it.

This is quite funny

The only license agreement you could read in its entirety and wholeheartedly endorse.

[–] nieceandtows@programming.dev 44 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not necessarily. I know a guy who has been using Linux for 20 years but is dumb as a bag of rocks. It's me.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

From the description, I thought you were talking about me. But maybe you are me and we are just two instances of our shared mental instability 💖

[–] BaraCoded@literature.cafe 2 points 1 week ago

Oh, I'm here as well. 5 more of us and we'll be sense8.

[–] burido@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You ever get that sick desperation in your life?

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 5 points 1 week ago

well to be fair you're smarter than people who use Omarchy so, hey bud, you got that going for you.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The linux community is split cleanly in two.

Those with way too much self-awareness and those with none at all.

I say that as someon who uses a linux distro as my main OS. (Yes I am better than you).

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

uses a linux distro as my main OS

As opposed to dabbling? Nah fuck that, I'm all in, to the extent possible. I have to use Mac OS for work, otherwise I'd be fully on Linux. Fuck windows with a rusty knife.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah my work computer runs Win 11 and god I hate it.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Am I the only one who doesn't have a negative experience on Windows 11? Like, I daily drive Cachy, but I have no issues with my work machine.

I guess our tech shop people are doing their jobs right.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I thought even most windows lovers had more than a couple issues with 11...

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

My condolences. I used to be in that situation (windows 7 then I think) and I hated it.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Most people start with dual booting and eventually, inevitably, move to linux full time.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I agree, I just don't know realistically how many people use them anywhere near equally for very long. I've been 99% on Linux for 5 years. That 1% is basically just me keeping a windows partition for security. I end up logging into it once every 4-6 months but I don't truly "need" it almost ever.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"Dual booting" as a concept is flawed anyways. You cant use both partitions so you gravitate towards one of the other (usually just linux; otherwise it'd be only windows anyways)

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah that's kinda what I'm saying. It takes effort/money to keep using both unless it's a work provided machine with the non preferred os

[–] drath@lemmy.drath.ru 1 points 1 week ago

You cant use both partitions

Well you can with a hypervisor, but why bother when you can just run windows VM in linux... until you discover some game anticheats like battleye went out of their way to detect and block virtualization of any kind, so you need to boot windows natively sometimes. Of course you could go the other way and run linux vm inside windows but then all the flexibility of a linux system is lost in a rigid windows wrapper, which makes it kinda pointless....

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Ugh... I feel your pain.

Linux full time at home, bazzite/steamOS for games. Mint for the media center. Debian on proxmox for homelab, and early attempts to not hurt myself with nix for the laptop.

But I support windows/OSX at work, so I have to keep up with all three worlds.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's also a hierarchy. You run Mint? Lol ok kid, adults use Arch.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] anewfox@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

no way, sadists use gentoo. i vastly prefer arch because i often need libraries that are newer than most package managers get in a timely fashion. i use fedora on my server for the opposite reason, but for my workstation, arch wins easily.

a linux beginner would probably need to be a sadist to use arch, but anyone who knows what they're doing will have a fine time.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What's someone who uses LFS?

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Arch bricked two of my switches, and all I literally did was "pacman -Syu" regularly.

[–] jojo@piefed.social 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's funny because it's true

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And if there's one kind of person who really pisses me off, it's the kind that use the wrong distro

[–] spicytuna62@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I could care less what distro you're using, but if you're using the wrong desktop environment, I will have a real conniption fit and write a 31-page rant on why your DE is a bloated, rigid mess.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Half of people hate gnome and will bite your head off for mentioning it, the other half loves and uses it with little to no issue. I'm a gnome guy and don't like KDE (yes I've tried it multiple times) but if they fix a few things I could see switching.

[–] EonNShadow@pawb.social 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I think I'm the weird one who likes different DEs for different use-cases

Gnome is great on a laptop with a track pad. It feels a bit like MacOS with its gestures and how it behaves. I did try also installing hyprland on it to try it out. I like the idea of a tiling WM but getting a setup 'just right' sounds like an exercise in patience I don't have when other solutions exist that are good enough.

On my main desktop that I use a mouse to navigate, KDE all the way.

On the few VMs that I run GUI apps on, I like LXQT (Lubuntu or Debian) for how few resources it uses.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Nice! I'll bet this helps your neuroplasticity too. I should probably try to do something similar. One reason I'm attached to gnome is that I've built up a collection of knowledge and scripts around customizing it. I should probably be less picky regarding these customizations though.

[–] provectus@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

What if I do not use a desktop or a wm? The tty is comfy here.

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Agreed. Enlightenment or bust!

OpenSUSE:

I promise not to make a nuclear weapon ✅

[–] anewfox@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

itunes also has that in its EULA.

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I mean is that like a pinky promise?

[–] TheMightyCat@ani.social 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is this true?

I mean funny meme hahaha windows sux but isn't the license agreement of Linux GPLv2? not to mention the license of the distro and all the packages?

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.en.html

[–] pelya@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Only on the kernel ackshually. Most packages are GPL3 or BSD or Apache.

If you don't plan to edit source files, Linux distribution licenses boil down to "do whatever just don't sue us"

[–] Olap@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but I just CachyOS

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

If you're gonna say windows is better than Linux in any conceivable way, yes you're gonna hear about it from a Linux person
