A professional hosting their own bunch of services on donation basis. But they stopped taking new users.
As far as emails go you should be fine as long is it isn't Google/apple/someone actively harvesting your information. The main problem is that even if you have encryption, most of the people you email probably don't, for this reason I think it's more important to setup an alias service (I use Addy.Io).
I use Proton but now I think if I'm gonna send mails to a Gmail anyway, there's no much difference except for the subscription ones not being scanned. And for those sites that I have to enter an email, I use addy.io alias or Firefox relay.

Does anybody actually socially communicate via email anymore?
I realize it's still in vogue for workplaces, and sometimes companies for support tickets and such, and maybe done doctors, but does anybody actually use it casually to send messages?
I'm dealing with budget issues at the moment but will be moving to a paid service relatively soon, but I think I'm in the majority that uses it almost exclusively only for receipts and getting login codes as a 2FA measure.
Every place I've ever bought anytime from that's attached to that email sends what must be millions of emails to me about different deals and shit, but has anyone ever even opened any of those? Pffffft not below the age of 45 or so I bet.
Email feels obsolete now. It's a decent backbone (hence why every other account is tied to it), but it's literally only there to be a common thread in a normie's tech flow. I haven't heard of people actually conversing with email since right after I stopped sending messages with mine, about the same time everyone got phones that first of all could send texts (my first phone could not send texts, was just able to save some phone numbers and call those easily. Then visual voicemail started happening, everyone got texting (and then data) plans, and email died off in popularity (at least in my circles) almost instantly.
