Whenever I see or hear a book recommendation, I add it to a disorganized list in Google Keep. At this point my list has gotta be hundreds of lines long (thanks comrades), and since Google Keep has no search functionality on mobile, it's becoming super unwieldy. I could make a spreadsheet, but those aren't very nice to edit on-the-go.

I realized I want my to-read/to-watch lists to be integrated with Jellyfin or Calibre, without me needing to download the source material first. I want the metadata for the item to be automatically synchronized from online database and maybe even download the cover art. I could download the source material later and it should just get merged with the existing item in Jellyfin.

Likewise I should be able to delete content from Jellyfin without deleting it from my "watched" list.

Is there some Jellyfin plugin for this? I'm thinking of Jellyfin first because it handles books and movies, while Calibre only handles books.

leave it open in a tab for several months going "yeah I'll watch that some time" every time I see it but never watching it

Maybe "collection management" is the keyword I needed:

Tellico
- Movies, books, music, board games, coins, ...)
GCStar
- Books, videos, comics, music, TV series, video games, board games, toys, miniature vehicules, stamps, coins, gadgets…
tinyMediaManager
- Movies, movie sets, tv shows. Basically a frontend to create .nfo files for Kodi, Plex, Jellyfin, etc.

tinyMediaManager is for applying meta data and organizing files you already have. Not what you are looking for.

I will gently suggest that creating this huge complex system could somewhat be procrastinating from actually reading or watching anything. I recognize it only because I am prone to it myself. Sometimes I let myself anyway.

If you want to fall into it:

For books, lazyLibrarian is the super nerdy solution.

For movies, radarr is my choice but there are others. It is compatible with jellyfin. There are also request systems for jellyfin, see awesome-jellyfin I think jellyseer is the most popular.

They ahould allow you to add titles and optionally auto-search for them.

Damn there's probably some truth to this. It's a blurry line for me because I also enjoy the process of self hosting/removing my data from the cloud, and I need an indoor hobby for the coming winter. But it is also true that a text file is already searchable and achieves maybe 70% of what I need.

My want-to-read in particular is bound to goodreads atm so I'm curious about this too
