I can't possibly think of a more pretentious series happening
the fans may be insufferable but neither the author nor the work itself holds itself in as high a regard
personally I'm excited to see movie and tv adaptations of the cosmere. there's a lot of potential.
What's wrong with the fans? I've heard he has some books worth reading but never had someone demanding I read them or something

As far as I understand dude just writes books quickly. I must have missed the groupies. That said I'm sure I'll happen across reading one of his books eventually because I know some are in the genres is enjoy. I remember enjoying Peter V Brett, Karen Miller, and Brent Weeks years back.. and his name seems to fall into those type of schtick
Lol I have a few friends that hold this guy so high. I've read a few books of his but it wasn't my thing. They insisted I obviously didn't get it.
I feel like the black company could be a popular movie or tv series, a low fantasy medieval setting where small magic can be a big deal and the stories are about a mercinary company that seems to be cursed to always be betrayed by their employer told from the perspective of the companies medic
I hope that Star Wars and Indiana Jones crossover finally happens and I can see that scene where Short round marries an Ewok.

Harry Potter is the one that comes to mind. Also Game of Thrones if you’d like. Both really blew up, have spin offs and staying power. Harry Potter has toys, video games, and amusement parks.

I never downvote if somebody is adding to the conversation, but I suspect people start to act shitty because JK Rowling raises their hackles.
Jurassic Park also landed somewhere in there. Lord of the Rings is hard to say where it exists because the book to movie gap
I was about to bring up those as well. The next closest that didn't really hit the "spin-off" level was the hunger games, but definately could.
I want it to be Backrooms or SCP.
This one would be cool, especially because no entity can claim ownership of the IP. I'd love to see how people adapt to the idea of a "non-franchise" where you pay attention to the continuity and works of a specific creator, but not because the franchise itself has any official continuity.
This is already true of things like Sherlock Holmes and Dracula, but I can't think of a recent fictional world where, from the get-go, there was no official canon.

I dont think its even possible. Those franchises took off when the US was a monoculture. Not only would creating the conditions necessary for something new to become truly uniquitous be impossible within our lifetime, it would also be monstrous to do.
Christopher Nolan could do it.
Marvel was not that big in mainstream culture before the MCU. So it's basically new. It was just very successful, there are other comics that never got that big but could.
Hot take: thing that has happened organically since the dawn of entertainment will continue to happen organically
K-Pop Demon Hunters was like that. Nobody but Netflix believed in it, and that's why there was barely any merchandise for its first Christmas. Companies would not get on board. Now stores are covered with stuff.

The last thing I watched in theaters was a reshowing of the Fellowship of the Ring. Everything else is on a buddy's Plex server. Fuck the movies I ain't paying 50 dollars for sticky floors and shitty snacks. I can do both of those at home.

the bext big IP to be owned by Disney and made into an addition at disneyland and disneyworld and epcott, and its only purpose was to sell skins on fortnite and other skinslop games and a monopoly board and a magic set and some FOMO toy collectible set. an ip which is just a vehicle for consumerism and individualism.

It would be nice. I'm working on a project to revitalise what I feel has been lacking, in terms of British cinema, however I'm in over my head sometimes. It is a nice thought, to create something iconic like the media of yesteryear, and hopefully more people have this in mind (than the regurgitated same old films rehashed every year).
