Ah when I got my android phone as a kid copied the newest iPhone with it to show you didn't need to pay all that for the same experience. Transitionary times are fun

Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudoin Windows. - No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
- Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. π¬π§ Language/ΡΠ·ΡΠΊ/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. π¬π§π¦πΊπΊπΈ
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed. Β
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
When all I had was a netbook with 1gb of ram and really weak intel atom cpu, I've done the same, not for estetic reasons (there was a qtcurve theme that looked like gray windows theme of win 2000 - but worse, but it was extremely configurable and with it netbook turned into something marginally usable with kde 4.x).
Windows is a fine operating system. The NT kernel is pretty good, all things considered, and the design and UX of XP, Vista, and 7 were overall pretty peak. The main problem with Windows is and always has been Microsoft. Expose theme 4 lyfe.
Well, does choosing Mint+Cinnamon for familiarity count?
I also tweak my Windows to mimic Linux
I call it OuroborOS
which linux? android? a smart fridge? a cars infotainment system? hannah montana linux? biebian? amogos?
Yes
Hey I argue that styling after Windows 7 isn't bad.
I use Nightglow Blue that looks kinda like a dark mode Windows 7:
I miss some of the explorer features. Specially right click dragging.
I also have some trouble balancing all the smaller storage devices that get used by programs.
That's no problem actually, given that Windows frequently copied KDE you'd just go full circle
Well yes, but i always tweeked my windows to the point of breaking. Now i use mint and have reached the point where i love how it looks, everything works and i will likley sit with its current form for some years, maybe untill my kids are older and i have more time to waste again.
I tweaked my NIRI WM to look like KDE
I do this, but largely around customizable tiling, keyboard shortcuts, low to no animations, and RDP.
As far as actual -theme- that seems insane.
I made WinTile for gnome. Gave me back quarter tiling.
I tweak mine to mimic OS/2. It's why I have a panel at the top of my screen to mimic the one in OS/2 Warp 4.
"We tweaked your windows to mimic linux"
-Microslop, after windows 10
Where do I get my certificate?
This is one of the reasons i hate kde and love gnome
I can't do GNOME. I've tried multiple times over the last25 years. I am well past the point where I do heavy wild customizations to KDE etc. Some colored window decorations to make it easier to find the buttons. Change icons and pointers. Monolith MHL in the background. And a little jiggle physics. Some of that GNOME can do, but it will often fight you over it. For myself plasma just has less friction, literally and figuratively. Though to be honest I'm not familiar with the friction coefficient of a gnome.
I've heard some say the restrictiveness of GNOME makes them more productive. Poor bastards.
Aha ! I choose a distro that looked like Windows out of the box, so did not tweak anything, joke's on you i'm no psycho
iTweak my Linux to look like a Mac.
