Linux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

But you need a CXL device which does the (de)compression in hardware between the CPU and RAM?
I was dabbling in pricing a Slimbook last night and the price of RAM made me cry.
i regret not getting mine just before the ai prices hit.
So, from what i've got from the comments; instead of doing swap shenanigans except in RAM like ZRAM (which slows it down), it just compresses content to a separate portion of RAM and points there?
What are the real world effects of this? E.g. for gaming etc.
(Note: I could be wrong) Games would run worse if you needed to access this memory. This technology is for making a more efficient swap space than a hard disk, not for speeding up regular memory usage.
There's at least one game I definitely know which benefits from zram, and will probably also benefit from cram.
If you run star citizen on a 32gb or lower linux system you'll need to enable zram, otherwise the game will grind to a halt. Setting zram to 0.5*ram it ends up being playable. I had to go that route before I changed to 64gb physical ram.
Zram compression isn't that bad, I don't mind a faster method tho :)
None, your current hardware lacks support for this.
What are the requirements?
In the presentation, they talk about a compression chip: https://www.youtube.com/live/OPRciCSsdS4?t=2060
If you're running out of RAM you can use the faster CRAM instead of ZRAM which itself is already much faster than swap. Basically you can fit more data into your RAM
