I applaud the troll aspect of it all, but imma stick with GIMP.

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 34 points 4 hours ago

Same. GIMP and Krita.

Using the thing of the enemy to destroy the other thing of the enemy... yeah that's justice. (but really though, I rather use actual homegrown open source projects like Krita instead of faux Photoshop)

[–] mEEGal@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

Faux-toshop is a nice name for it

I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see.

Poetic, I like it.

Context? Did someone decompile photoshop?

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 10 points 1 hour ago

They used an AI model to repeatedly generate guesses of the code until it matched the compiled bytecode, then AI-generated new code based on the decompiled source to create a technically unique codebase that can do most of the same functions and looks extremely close to the original.

Has essentially every feature, but also bugs out a lot or has features that technically work, but not in the same way as Photoshop (e.g. magic wand selection tool might bug out and select stuff on more than one layer, and might be less accurate and selecting fine edges)

Kind of maybe? There's a lot of info flying around but the bottom line is that they rebuilt it in rust and it's Ai slop code and sucks.

It’s been found that LLMs are actually great at decompiling things. Whereas before this process was possible but very time consuming, LLMs can do it in hours/days depending on the software.

So there’s a group that is decompiling Adobe software and rewriting it in Rust, and then published the apps + rewritten code

Edit: then there’s the larger implication, that is that pretty much any software can become open source now

[–] Lauchmelder@feddit.org 15 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

So we have AIs turning proprietary software into open source software, and AIs rewriting open source software into proprietary software. Wonder what will happen if we run this in a loop

Wonder what will happen if we run this in a loop

Out of memory error, probably.

[–] Asweet@piefed.ca 1 points 13 minutes ago

The entire world is experiencing an out of memory error thanks to this loop

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

that is when I’ll try an ai gen game.

When it’s 100% inspired by a genre and actually fully chosen by the growing personality.

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 4 hours ago

Somebody used ai to launder a leaked source. From what I understand, it's about as functional as one can expect a fully slop coded project to be (barely).
