To be fair season one is a rather high standard to meet.
I misread that as "beat off first season" and was like "hur hur hur"

I really tried to get into true detective but just couldn't. I can see it's a well made show it's just not my cup of tea

Yes.
Mahershala Ali did Season 3 and Jodie Foster did Season 4.
Both were credible, but neither was as good as Season One.
