Palmer Luckey of Anduril is teaming with Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences to launch Warhound, a startup dedicated to genetically engineering and cloning dogs for service in war, police work and first responder work.

Speaking to Wired, Lamm explained that the project was twofold. One part of the project would oversee the genetic engineering and cloning of the ideal dogs for war, and the other would develop tech for them to use on battlefields.

Don't feed them for three days, and release 100 of them into the White House, and barricade the doors.

Here's a book about it. Not spoilers: there are a few complications.

Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Oh GREAT.

Self replicating war machines.

Hopefully they are too incompetent to do anything productive.

That's such a fucked up thing to do to make dogs that are as aggressive as possible. These are not going to be happy animals.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Making aggressive war dogs is something humanity tried before. Mastiffs and Chow Chows are two examples. They often attacked and killed their human masters.

Really I think we should extinct the practice of training attack dogs. In US police action they're abused to escalate to violence quicker than an officer would resort to firearms.

Armored dogs in war would be responed to like mechanized armor. A dozen of my cheap flying explosive drones will make short work of your expensive dog.

But then, the US hasn't caught up to the tech of cheap drones.

In my opinion, police dogs, in the US at least, are a vestigial cultural holdover from law enforcement's slave catching past. There isn't really a good tactical reason to be using them that couldn't be performed by other equipment. They are unreliable, expensive, and get shot surprisingly often. If you really interrogated why they still use attack dogs, their answer would be that those people are scared of them.

Other than that, scenthounds are just probable cause generators which are all probably trained to alert on command.

Someone needs to develop chocolate bullet startup.

The ideas is veeery simple, develop a gun to shoot chocolate into mouth. It will be toxic to these war beasts, but tasty to us humans.

Remember if you buy shit from ModRetro like the M64 you are literally funding this fuck head. If one of your friends has that knock off GameBoy or n64 inform them, if they shrug it off reconsider your relationship with them. Seriously the excuse of no ethical consumption under capitalism doesn’t fly. There is a direct line from ModRetro to this arms dealer called Palmer and ModRetro sells just toys not something necessary for survival.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I think you have misunderstood what "There is no ethical consumption under capitalism." means. It's not an excuse to allow yourself to buy ModRetro, it's a reminder that existing inside a capitalist system is itself unethical. Although you may not have a choice. It's not an excuse, it's a condemnation. People misuse it to mean they exist and it's impossible to avoid participating in capitalism regardless of moral objections but that's not what it means.
