Poorest excuse for a friend accidentally shooting you. "My dog ate my homework."

[–] Walk_blesseD@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 13 hours ago

So this must be what the pigs are scared of when they're shooting people's dogs.

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 171 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not American but even I know you need to keep your dogs secured in a dog safe when you're not using them. It's just basic dog safety

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 65 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Guns don't kill people. Dogs with guns kill people.

[–] not_me@piefed.social 14 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

Guns don't kill people . Bullets kill people

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 11 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Bullets don't kill people, homeostatic imbalance kills people.

He forgot to buy a second gun to stop his dog from using his first gun against him.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 29 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

The only thing that stops a good dog with a gun is a bad dog with a gun.

Or maybe a cat with a knife, I guess? I dunno.😸

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 4 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Cats already have little knives, though. Around 18 of them...

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

You're saying as if a cat with 19 knives wouldn't be even scarier.

It is the cat. The problem is then you need a mouse with a rusty needle to deal with the cat.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 1 points 10 hours ago

And then a parasite with a Tylenol to deal with the mouse, and so it ever was.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 53 points 23 hours ago

Where were all the good dog gun owners to defend the victim?

Poor doggo 🥺

Guns are so loud.

[–] Devjavu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, and he will now miss his friend.

[–] ProgrammingSocks@pawb.social 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

11 people that didn't read the article. Says he went into surgery. Not dead. Owner is still a dumbfuck who should have their gun privileges taken away.

The victim told police that before the incident, he was cleaning his firearm

getting shot by own gun and cleaning it, these often come together, maybe is safer to keep them dirty

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Also complete bullshit. If you're cleaning it, you wouldn't have a round in the chamber.

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 43 points 20 hours ago

Somehow he was cleaning it and it still had rounds to fire or he cleaned and reloaded and left it unsecured so it had rounds to fire. Sounds like sort of person who should own a gun for sure.

He was cleaning his (loaded) gun... Sure...

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 24 points 22 hours ago

Its actually a very common problem. Gun nuts all think they are John McClane and need to keep one in the chamber at all times. They remove the magazine but never properly run the action and yeah. Its especially a problem with glocks because disassembly actually involves squeezing the trigger.

Responsible gun owners are only slightly more common than good guys with a gun.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 10 points 20 hours ago

stuff like this makes a real strong case for taking guns away from everybody

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've met some people who really should not have guns...

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Most people I've met really should not have guns. And don't, as far as I know.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Even in America, the vast majority of people don't own a gun. Something like 70%.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Still, only the US has an annual toddler/dog gun killing rate (as in the toddler/dog shooting somebody else).

Also 44% of Americans live in a household where a gun is present.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Both those statements track, more or less, since the guns are usually owned by one person in the house.

Those cases are failed suicide attempts or they were otherwise doing something they know damned well was stupid.

Any given weapon is stupid easy to clear, in 3-4 seconds, and be certain it's clear. Not like bullets are hiding in there somehow.

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed. There are a lot of people and a lot of guns in the world, so I won't say that it's never happened. The vast majority of those cases, though, are suicides or failed suicides where they're trying to save face and/or make sure the life insurance still pays out.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

Life insurance does pay in the event of suicide! Depends on the length of time between taking the policy and, uh, execution. Terms and conditions may apply!
