Marjorie Taylor Greene says she was ‘naive’ for believing Trump is man of the people

“I realized that I’m part of this toxic culture. I really started looking at my faith. I wanted to be more like Christ.”

Press (x) for doubt

This from the jewish space laser lady ?

People don't change, some adapt.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ - Gandhi

So she's either lying or willfully ignorant. I'm leaning towards the former. Either way, not someone worth listening to. Go away, Marge.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I still don't see the point of her lying. Maybe she's pissed she didn't get a job in the Trump admin. In any event, Democrats won't elect her for anything, she's leaving politics.

You’d have to be naive to believe her.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Reminder that the US elected Trump two times.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And some Americans will believe her. 🤣

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I don't necessarily believe her, just can't figure out her angle.

[–] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Not to save her political career, that's over. Could be the Epstein stuff is actually shocking to her because she's an idiot.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Could be many things. One thought is, she’s just all pissy she got played and she’s trying to stir the pot a bit on her way out before she descends into nowhere.

Or maybe she thinks she start a grift like Charlie Kirk giving speeches or some shit (hence the Christ thing.)

The people = the small subgroup of people she doesn't hate

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago
[–] treesquid@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And anyone who thinks she's reformed now is even more naive.

The mainstream media continue to inexplicably rehabilitate her image and as you can see by the comments here it’s literally working

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

They are a person who saw that they were the problem. They get credit for that. They might still be a miserable person but we should encourage all Trump supporters to admit their mistake. Some of them might need some knife marks on their forehead but we will get to that later.

You know. I hope she’s earnest about this wake up call and becomes a MAGA “reformist.” Bad people in toxic systems can do good things in life, and her following isn’t trivial.

…But proof is in the puddin. Especially with her history.

I will also say that, if she’s betting on a Trump collapse, that is not a great bet and she knows it. If she simply wants power, it doesn’t seem like she’d be leaving Congress while saying these things.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If she were in it for the power, she'd use her new role as 'maverick' in the GOP's razor-thin margin to play kingmaker.

If she were in if for the money, she'd retire as soon as her pension vests.

If she were Truly Awakened, she'd resign as soon as she learned she's been tainted by a toxic system.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

She did the later:

https://apnews.com/article/marjorie-taylor-green-congress-resigns-trump-maga-5f42d4893343babc8e87da1491a0de2b

She said her last day would be Jan. 5, 2026.

It’s not instant. But for a congresswoman, that’s an abrupt resignation.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Jan 5 2026 is the day her pension vests: 5 years of service.

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Didn’t realize that.

But still. Not waiting 1 month and forfeiting a government pension, just to make a point? That seems stupid to me. And it’s not like she’s making a ridiculous amount of money from the pension.

To be clear, I don’t want to veer into defending her. I’m sure she makes tons of money from social media, which is kind of sickening.

Nah. This backtracking is bullshit. She knew exactly who he was. She just fell off his coattails for whatever reason and now she's playing the victim, even if it's being a willfully ignorant victim.

[–] Aljernon@lemmy.today 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Aggressively ignorant" is a better description of her than naïve

[–] bigfondue@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Useful idiot that has no use now that Trump is on his way out

Not "naive" but, evil and apathetic to others until she is on the other side. No matter what she says she should never be trusted or forgiven.

That being said it's been oddly quiet from her friend boebert.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I mean, if she's that dumb, maybe she shouldn't be in politics any more.

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

MAGA once again feeling victimised for political clout

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

"political clout"

Her political career is over.

Yeah she's a pretty spot on representation of the type of person who would believe someone thoroughly documented as a lifelong liar and grifter is actually a virtuous, truthful individual.

In other words, a dumbfuck.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This may be appropriate in two ways. Trump is the leopard in this case but in the future we may look back and see her eating his face. He may have created the leopard that will do him in.

Margie had a chance to ride the criminal train to the top but her cohorts didn't want her on board and now the fury of her hell is upon us.

As an apology it's very horse.

Edit: Gandhi killed his wife, he was a piece of shit. Don't quote him.

I'm genuinely not sure the United States has literally ever had a person that's less of a man/woman "of the people."

I don't like the guy, but genuinely and objectively I believe this to be true. The guy is just a comically awful person - he's so void of any semblance of compassion and empathy that I'd argue a fictitious person of the same character in a movie or book would be an unrealistic and boring villain.

That's who the Republicans elected. An unrealistic, boring villain. A guy that wants money, power, and virtually nothing else.
