!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I don’t understand why this is a thing? Who wants to watch someone nod their head to someone else’s content?

Just show the original video! How did this get popular and what is wrong with those that helped it to happen?

If I want to watch 10 minutes of funny shorts/tik toks, do I

a) open my feed, where I have a chance to find not funny content, and have to physically swipe for every video? Plus laughing alone is not as fun as laughing with someone else

Or

b) watch sniper-ali-freerobuckz watch the good ones, and I can sit back and enjoy someone to laugh with?

I'm not defending reaction content. They are obviously lazy and just copy-pasting for easy views, but I can see why they get clicks.

I find enjoyment in some of them, but not all. I can’t find entertainment in watching someone else play a game. I often wonder if a lot of the people doing this on sites like Twitch are the “younger siblings” who always watched someone else play and now that’s their thing?

I do find enjoyment in watching a musician listen to music I like, but more so for their commentary like picking up on things I never paid attention to or explaining something and how it compares to other music. Or seeing how they react and if they have the same reactions I do to my favorite parts of a song. I don’t know why, but I get a kick out of seeing reactions like that.

And on the reaction video side, a very rare time I can see it is like watching some old person watch GTA gameplay and seeing their reaction to it. Even then, it’s going to be for the most extreme of reactions like them really going all out crazy over it and having a hilarious response.

Idk but I feel like Japan started it with their picture-in-picture on TV lol

Clearly you're not a fan of the Wakaliwood Ugandan movie Who Killed Captain Alex and its video joker

I have never heard of it.

Fully agreed that this is a dumb thing but hasn't this been a fad since like 10 years ago?

I've seen people do that (or worse, watch a video of someone else playing a game) since looooong ago

I have watched a couple of them because the only video I have found on some interesting theme has been such a reaction video.

But, I'd say that I do feel kind of comfortable "having someone around" when watching the video. I would still prefer the video without the extra commentator saying things aloud that I can see myself, but I bet there are people who really do get something out of the reaction videos. I'd imagine they are very nice things for the most intoverted among us?

Still, they are there mainly for generating revenue for their makers and for youtube, not so much for some actual need...
