“We're not handout takers," said Palmer.

Even after the enhanced subsidies go away in 2026, the Palmers estimate their income will still be low enough that they'll qualify for some tax credits to purchase coverage.

maga in a nutshell.

I identify as not a freeloading schlub, therefore, you must respect my fiscal gender.

I use to appreciate farmers. Then I learned the majority of them are MAGAts. Fuck them.

Have the day you voted for.

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hell yeah, I hope they go broke

[–] 9488fcea02a9@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why? So that some private equity assholes can buy them out for cheap and make the entire food supply chain even shittier?

As right as you are, it's still hard to have sympathy for them. It's not like there weren't any signs. It's not like nobody warned them. Once again, we are standing here saying "I told you so".

I'm not saying people should have sympathy for the farmers, but consider the real implications of wishing bankruptcy on them.

Its part of the playbook for the system to bankrupt small farmers and buy up all the land. Maybe we should not cheer that on, no matter how shitty the individual farmers are

Edit: whoops i replied to the original post instead of this thread

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago

Nah, fuck em.

Let em go bankrupt, then, if we actually have a next administration, nationalize all farmland, convert them into local/regional co-ops where workers can vote on how things are run, if agro corps complain, nationalize them too.

Fuck the entire system.

Now, is that all likely to happen?

Probably not no.

But its not impossible, we just need enough Luigis, there really aren't that many people that comprise the hyperwealthy corpo oligarch class.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

I think you meant maybe we should not cheer that on. Its funny they are now welfare recipients even though they hate those. But yeah, as much as I feel like slapping them I wish we could help them keep the land. The price of food will fly through the roof when the old rich white psychopathic vultures circling the farms awaiting the bankruptcies swoop in and monopolize the food chain.

I hate this timeline so much. Evil people rule the whole world.

Arguably we need more housing. While I do support the few local farms we have left despite how expensive they are, there’s a good argument for that being an inefficient choice for a densely populated area

Almost all of our food comes from red states that are already shitty places to live. Those red states voters are free to vote themselves a shittier place to live, if only it didn’t also hurt everyone else

Why are you on this sub?

What else can we do that sit back and laugh? I'm pretty sure they'd be fine if they didn't vote to "own the libs"... So here we are. I hope they suffer the same way they wanted me and my friends to suffer.

Gloating over the misfortunes of those who voted against their own self interest is a staple of this /c

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

Everyone saw it coming but them. I'm not cheering it in because it's in nobody's best interest for the tyrants to gather more power and land.
