Poor middle class people will start taking out car loans to buy Tesla. Just like the iPhone phenomena

It's a weird move because Tesla was receiving nearly 7 years of $99/month up front if people gave it to them, while being as slow as they want in reaching their promises. So, either they are worried that they will be forced to give refunds for underwhelming service, or they are planning massive monthly fee increases. It's probably the latter to their credit. Robotaxi fee would be a normal high fee.

Who is using self-driving mode? And why? When you add price of a self-driving car + (now) subscription, it is cheaper to use some public transport, bus/train/taxi/uber/..

I would think they first would have to actually release the feature.

[–] jimmy90@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

yeah the self driving has not been approved anywhere yet. this is "supervised" only

this just the first step of burying the failure

And I would think that before releasing the feature they'd have to get it to stop constantly crashibg cars into large stationary objects.

It's probably vibe-coded.

Kinda a crazy move considering that they were charging 8k for "fsd" before, and are moving to a monthly subscription of a hundred bucks a month.

You would have to own your Tesla for six and a half years for them to make the same return. My guess is that the hundred dollars a month is just the initial price which will drastically inflate over time. That or they are just going to raise prices by 8k and still charge you a subscription cost anyways....

Or you get more people buying in. 8k up front looks a lot different than a couple hundred a month.
