This sounds like a stupid question, but I'm being genuine.

He is telling people to eat more meat, which sounds absolutely insane to me.

What qualifies him to give health advice ? Why are americans trusting him ?

America is not a meritocracy. People are routinely appointed to positions they have no business being in.

Also, Kennedy represents a crowd that is fundamentally lost to a social media reinforced "vibes based" reality. These people can live a solid major of their day without encountering objective reality. Their worlds are built around bullshit machines incentivised to feed them an ever increasing amount of bullshit.

These people votes, drive cars, have children, and carry firearms. So you can see why this place is so fucked.

Just because junior is saying stuff doesn't mean Americans are listening or obeying.

Lack of education.

Yeah but he has such a smooth velvety voice, who could refuse?

(No offense to decent people with “textured” timbres)

Green planet, veganism, healthy ... all woke lefty communist snowflake bullshit. Eat meat, must be more gooderer. Eat more meat must be most gooderest!

What qualifies him to give health advice ? Why are americans trusting him ?

For those that are listening to him. It's because he's pandering to what they want to hear. Not because what he's saying is right.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago

It's not like we're all doing that. Or even most of us.

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 4 points 2 days ago

I certainly don't take health advice from that crypt keeper looking fucker, and I'm sure I'm far from the only one who doesn't take health advice from unhealthy people

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago

Because most Americans are drug-addicts themselves.

I mean shit, i can't tell you how many people, doctors included, have been aghast that i might have to take a pill every day the rest of my life for blood pressure. as though it's an addiction. people are fucking idiots.

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Having a former heroin addict in the highest health policy position is nothing compared to voting a fraud and pedophile into the highest office in the country. Twice!

When was the last time you ate more or less of something because someone in the government told you to?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Corn syrup yesterday

Fox News. Endless propaganda and ratings driven idiocy. People watch the most alarmist "news" and they jump on this bandwagon of stupidity. In particular, people of limited education/intelligence love to be anti science, because for once they can feel like the person that is actually smart.

It's scary.

Uneducated populace stuck in propaganda channels.

RFK Jr. wanted to lead the USA's health department against a believed massive conspiracy by big-Whatever. Trump gave RFK Jr. a slot so RFK Jr. didn't split the far-right crazy vote in the 2024 election.

In 2024, RFK Jr. launched an independent bid for the presidency after floating challenging Joe Biden's spot in the Democratic Party. RFK Jr. had no chance of winning the Democratic primary or an independent bid; but being a conspiracy theorist and all-around horrible person, it was possible that RFK Jr. may have split enough of that population from key states to cause Trump to lose. That conspiracy theory nonsense really doesn't hold water in the Democratic voter base. The folks who would choose RFK Jr. over Harris or Trump, would otherwise choose Trump over Harris.

Recall that in 2016, Trump won many key states with <54% of the vote; and in 2020, Biden flipped those key states after Trump's mismanagement of the Covid-19 pandemic and other controversies. Even losing 3% of the popular vote in a few states to RFK Jr. may have cost Trump the election in 2024, or so it was feared.

Lots of people here are giving explanations of why the citizens may support RFK Jr. and, while that is all true, the reality is most of Trump's campaign staff are just loyalists (i.e. Pam Bondi), alt-right conspiracy theorists (i.e. Kash Patel), and folks who assisted in his election campaign (i.e. Elon Musk, Dr. Phil). Many of these are figures are people largely unknown of until they were appointed to be Trump's staff. RFK Jr. leads the HHS because he was given that role by Trump. As to why the USA folk chose Trump; Well, we've been having that conversation for 15 months now.

Because we are being led by a convicted felon who sexually assaults his child employees.

Only americans can put the question this stupid way, and so it really fits here: Well done!

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

We aren't. We just have one giving it.

[–] Shamber@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

More simple than you'd think, dumb people only trust other dumb people's advice, there is no cure for stupid, unfortunately

[–] arin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I gotta say, from an Australian perspective, American politics is so extra, like an ex heroin Addict becoming the health minister, and some coked up orange business man who thinks he’s the second coming of Christ is the president? And the USA became fascistic in like a year? That’s wild

Aussie politics is just a boring ass democracy with some of the spicy American inspired silliness for the aesthetics, as well as most people being on the same page but like 2 politicians arguing about some insignificant idea somehow appearing on national news, or that group of people who want Albanese dead for just existing, which is a bit odd I gotta say.

The new food pyramid is just as influenced by lobbyist as the previous one. Only this time it's the life stock industry.

Plus anti-woke MAGA wants to distance itself from vegans as much as possible.

But also, lean, fresh meat isn't that bad. It does have a lot of protein, with really balanced amino-acids. You don't have to carefully combine grains and legumes, in order to not miss out on essential nutrients.

Meat also has a lot of bioavailable iron and vitamin B12. Both are important and usually insufficient in a vegan diet.

If you count fish as meat, it also has bioavailable Omega-3. Especially fatty ocean-fishes like salmon. If you don't eat fish, you either have to eat microalgae-oil or severely reduce your omega-6 consumption (no chips for you. They are fried in sunflower oil).

In contrast to fresh meat, most processed meats are really bad:

  • Cured meat has sodium nitrate. That's a known carcinogen.
  • Smoked meat has smoke particles. That's another known carcinogen.
  • Charred meat has charring. Another carcinogen.

And you also shouldn't eat a lot of fat from land animals. It has a lot of saturated fats which, you guessed it, cause cancer.

Former heroin addict. Now say that in the RFK voice.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

There's a half-naked photo of him, where he's swole, then people decided he looked "healthy", because the body building community managed to control the narrative around the health implications of the sport.
