On of my ancestors cut his two fingers off to escape the Russian draft decades and decades ago. I'm not in America and I think I might be disqualified anyway if I were, but I wonder if that's a modern strategy that could work. It does sound a bit drastic...
God that must have been bleak, watching the USSR collapse, congress burning on TV, followed by years of hunger and finding out you might get sent to die for some oligarchs in Russia in Chenchnya.

The rest of the world would name national holidays after you and hail you as a hero.
Not an american, but my country has a mandatory lottery style conscription system :3.. I did end up with my name in it once, but I never got past the medical evaluation :3 failed the psychological tests lol. It did end up with me getting a military mandated mental hospital visit™ tho, which is a fun story to tell

They didn't "fall", they were killed.
Well, I'm disabled/neurodivergent. So really I technically shouldn't be able to get drafted (I'm saying this with the knowledge I gained back when I wanted to join the Marines when I was 15 that the Military doesn't usually enlist people with either autism or ADHD. And I have both. )
