Rules (interactive)
Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.
If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.
Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.
If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Cigarettes cause more deaths: 8 million per year compared to 2.8 million per year. Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out why perhaps there are more lenient rules.
How is that legal?
Those considerations are always a trade-off. How much government should interfere with an industry, especially one that's been around since we monkeys climbed down from the trees? There isn't just the plight of alcoholics to consider. An advertisement ban would affect business and jobs. It would take a considerable chunk out of the advertising market that when gone world affect media, an already struggling industry. And AA doesn't quite have the deep pockets for lobbying. It's legal because it's complicated, not because it's just.
I happen to agree with you here; ads for alcohol should be banned along with those for any sort of gambling and prescription medication while I'm at it. This "drink responsibly" campaign is an effort to make it harder for lawmakers to decide. I'm reminded of that Soviet Union quote and i'm paraphrasing: we know that they know that we know that they know they're lying yet the lying continues.
One day at a time.
TBH: Interesting question, post ruined by this "US-centric or not" BS. (Rest assured that as European, I don't give a f about your insecurities with your education, at least not in unrelated posts. I'd bet most Europeans would not be able to point to most U.S. on the map, maybe Texas, California, Florida (wink) or NY but that's about it. Even I know barely half of them, and that's because I'm a terminally online look-up-everything-on-wikipedia nerd.)
I was just curious about what would people say about ad regulations. I would have no problem with question being US-centric or any-other-country-centric.
post ruined
scratch that, I just discovered there's this wheel on my mouse that make bad comment go up up up and away
That’s a good answer other than the prohibition part. Yes that’s was disaster. I’m talking about advertising the product to … young people a lot of the time.
Plus the framework for the ad ban has already been tried successfully.
It's because cigarette companies started to advertise to kids.
Why is my comment below being removed for harassment for pointing out a fact?
How do you think I feel when I see the guys in these ads surrounded by beautiful women? It's like the opposite feeling for me, you're showing me something that can not happen.
Because we live in a society that hates women as much as it hates cancer
