From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

You guys are awesome. You've taken a bunch of sand and made it do some amazing things. FOSS devs especially, you do this for the good of everyone for little benefit to yourselves. You all deserve a medal.

After being widely disseminated online, Messing was labeled "Fedora Guy" and the picture became synonymous with "neckbeard" and "nice guy" stereotypes, as well as a joke at the expense of zealous atheists.

This is such a funny way of putting it

"zealous atheists" links to the article for New Atheism which is even funnier

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Hah, I wanted to check what it linked to. Both funny and accurate.

The link to his youtube still works, and he's been posting fortnite videos recently.

There's a video from 10 months back, and his health doesn't look great.

He got a bad case of COVID-19, was in a coma, and is permanently paralyzed. Looks like he's got a GoFundMe for medical transport from Florida to Texas, where he'd have better support and hopefully be able to do voice work.

Oh my days! Freaks and Geeks if one of my favourite shows and never did I make the connection! Holy crap. D:

Except the ones that submit AI slop patches to projects without even understanding it or being upfront about it

[–] voytrekk@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 month ago

Are those people really developers or just sloperators?

[–] farngis_mcgiles@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago

friendly reminder to donate to open source projects if you can. those devs work hard

FOSS devs especially, you do this for the good of everyone for little benefit to yourselves.

I guarantee that most contributors who aren't being paid are doing their commits out of spite, but I can definitely applaud them for being as vindictive as they are.

This. The best code I've ever written and the one I'm proudest of, has been written out of spite. XD

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i wonder if spite is the reason why the grapheneos people do their thing. lol

[–] Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Almost certainly.
