Year of the Linux terminal

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But why? And how the fuck did this get into the arch official repos already?

The video demo is fucking art

[–] somegeek@programming.dev 10 points 2 weeks ago

I ask why? Then I answer "why not"

[–] tracyspcy@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I tried it for a bit, and it is kind of way too raw..but most of all it is pretty useless (at least to me) and hard to describe how strongly I hate this cursor. A lot of whys honesty . Cannot understand why it is promoted so hard …

Sometimes its nice to do a silly thing because we can. Like the gnome extensions that bring back wobbly windows or other egregious compiz effects

[–] tracyspcy@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

Hahaha , that’s true

[–] gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

it's experimental, it's not supposed to be an actual terminal to be used (at least i don't think anyone would), the potential is future implementation of 3d rendering inside the terminal. it's a similar scenario to when kitty started to introduce images inside the terminal. is it necessary? no. but it's fun.

[–] tracyspcy@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

I’m not against experiments. If it would result in something useful, it will be great

Useless? If we can get everyone to use this thing, we can finally invent the internet from Johnny Mnemonic!

[–] tracyspcy@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Nothing to add. Just want to acknowledge that it is a well crafted comment

WTF do you mean? The rat is now the cornerstone of my terminal's functionality.

[–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm imagining some script that only functions based on the angle/position of the rats spin

[–] StellarExtract@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

Hilarious, but also pretty cool. Could actually be nice for working with code cad!

[–] marxismtomorrow@lemmy.today 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Terry A. Davis built this in his garage. With a box of scraps!

[–] SlicedPotato@feddit.dk 3 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I'm sorry. I'm not Terry A. Davis.

The demo video is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, I love it

Eliie: This is a Unix system! I know this!

Can I see a hat wobble?

[–] Mucki@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

Name one purpose other than for the sake of it. That makes it fine art.

That's really funny
