I remember when this was so absurd that it was funny, now it just seems like an inevitability...

Except you'll also have to swear allegiance to the Supreme Leader before you can use any computing device.

Hitman, my beloved, you're such a good game but fuuuuuck the online connection thing.

Don't have to. None of them have any DRM

[–] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 6 points 1 hour ago

Good choice then.

I'm guessing the commenter is talking about GOG and/or "legitimate" piracy on PC.

(Legitimate piracy meaning you own the game legally but you downloaded a pirated copy to avoid DRM)

I've seen stuff pulled from the steam store so it's no longer available for purchase/adding to my library, but the ones I already added, even undownloaded, have always still been available in my library, even if the game was fully defunct.

I’ve had my downloaded purchases from a humble bundle deleted from my PC after a couple days because the payment processor failed

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 24 minutes ago (1 children)

That's a substantially different situation, I don't see how you can reasonably equate Sony removing game data from people's console post-purchase due to them no longer maintaining any servers to play on with Valve not letting you keep a game that was not properly paid for in the first place.

I don’t see how a different situation has anything to do with it? You can make any judgement you like but the facts are the facts

Got any sources for that? Only ever heard of them removing a game from sale, not removing it from someone who has already bought it.

Also GOG can't even do this if they wanted to, they are unable to uninstall a game you have downloaded already.

[–] Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works -1 points 43 minutes ago (1 children)

Yep, GOG doesn’t have the ability but Valve absolutely does. When my payment for a humble bundle failed (so, added to library and installed before the payment was resolved) Steam removed the games from my library AND drive

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 minute ago* (last edited 1 minute ago)

Oh, removing stuff you didn't pay for is pretty understandable tbh. Didn't realise they even let you play stuff before the payment is made.
