I am charging my laptop with one of the "quick charging" phone chargers right now, currently it says 5 hours until full charge. Does this wear out the battery faster or something? Or does it make no difference apart from taking a little bit longer?

The boss of Rolls-Royce has said he would welcome Germany helping to build Britain’s next-generation fighter jet, arguing that it would bring in more business for the project.

The aircraft, designed to replace the Eurofighter Typhoon, is a joint effort between the UK, Italy and Japan. Rolls-Royce is building the engine for the jet, which has attracted fresh attention as plans for a rival Franco-German warplane edge towards collapse.

Tufan Erginbilgiç, who has run the engineering company since 2023, told the Guardian he would “definitely be open” to Germany joining the global combat aircraft programme (GCAP), also known as Tempest.

“We already work with Germany … we have a big position in Dahlewitz [a Rolls-Royce factory near Berlin]. In terms of civil aerospace, we do business aviation engines there,” he said. “But the GCAP benefit will be beyond that. More countries joining means more countries will certainly buy, because you cannot be a partner and not buy.

The UK’s RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus has been hit by a drone strike, causing limited damage and no casualties, Cypriot authorities and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have said.

A security alert put out to residents in the vicinity of Akrotiri by the British base’s administration advised residents to shelter in place until further notice “following a suspected drone impact”. Non-essential personnel have been asked leave to leave the base.

An MoD spokesperson said: “Our armed forces are responding to a suspected drone strike at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus at midnight local time. Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people.”

The apparent attack took place hours after the UK agreed to let the US use British military bases to attack Iranian missile sites.

Welcome everybody to the weekly Tradition of our group our Weekly Discussion Thread. This week I have no witty clip or introduction as none seem appropriate, all I have is anger and sorrow.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez openly condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Saturday, warning that they could heighten regional tensions and “contribute to a more uncertain and hostile international order.”

War highlights strained alliances, unfettered militaries and a Washington with renewed appetite for regime change

A joint US-Israeli operation that appeared to use nuclear negotiations as cover. Gulf leaders courting Donald Trump as he decided to launch a major Middle Eastern intervention. Europe boxed out and a G7 defence minister caught so off-guard that he was grounded in Dubai as the bombs fell. And from Moscow, a strongly worded condemnation of the missile strikes against a fellow member of the anti-US “axis of upheaval” – and little else.

The war unleashed by the US and Israel on Saturday has exposed the new rules of geopolitics in Trump’s second presidency, with strained alliances, unfettered militaries and a Washington that has regained its appetite for regime change.

Despite an administration that claimed it would pull back from the Middle East and Europe in order to focus instead on the growing threat from China, the White House has toppled one leader in Latin America and has launched another war – that could easily become a regional conflict – with no clear plan for a transfer of power in Iran.

Russia's image as a reliable ally has suffered yet another blow as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint U.S.–Israeli strikes across Iran on Feb. 28, marking a fresh outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East.

So far, Moscow's response to the U.S.–Israeli bombardment of hundreds of targets in Iran has been limited to diplomatic support for Tehran, even as U.S. President Donald Trump has openly called for a change of regime.

The latest development highlights Iran's junior role in its partnership with unsteady Russia, while Moscow's focus on the war in Ukraine leaves it little means to rush to Tehran's aid.

I still haven't found a Google Drive replacement. Nextcloud is way too bloated. Seafile is way too complicated to install.

FileGator seemed like another possible solution...

Trying to be sensitive. I unintentionally texted “I don’t mean to break your balls on this” to an old friend (f->m). In retrospect, I feel it’s gender affirming, but where is the line? Which euphemisms or idioms should I anttempt to avoid, if any?
