According to the Italian press, Luigi Di Maio (5 Star Movement, no university degree) was bestowed an honorary professorship at King's College London, based on a LinkedIn post by Di Maio and a bio page on the King's College website. There is no press release or any other mention of this in the UK press. True?

TOKYO (AP) — Osaka has received a hefty gift of gold bars worth 560 million yen ($3.6 million) from an anonymous donor asking for its specific use: to fix the Japanese city’s dilapidated water pipes.

The gold bars weighing 21 kilograms (46 pounds) in total were given to the Osaka City Waterworks Bureau in November by the donor who wants to help improve aging water pipes, Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama told reporters Thursday.

“It’s a staggering amount and I was speechless,” Yokoyama said. “Tackling aging water pipes requires a huge investment, and I cannot thank enough for the donation.”

The mayor said his city will respect the donor’s wishes and use the gift to improve waterworks projects.

I'm sorry that I don't have the time to add alt-texts to everything I make. We're currently not working as a team, but relying on each others charitable efforts.

I'm quire frankly tired of liberals threatening me at proverbial gunpoint that if I don't provide them with free labor, for the chance of success, that I'm a bad person. We could use AI to implement accessibility features, but that's a no-no too apparently?

They've all been raving about how bad AI is and how people are using chat bots to validate their feelings and I'm like bruh, people have been using me to validate their feelings for cash since I was a teenager playing Runescape.

Westerners have no idea how privileged they are. Their masters strike at the knees of others and then make, those others, lick their boots or they demonize them, call them anti-social loners, barbarians, lazy etc.

They also blame the south for being transphobic, homophobic, but have you noticed who carries out the transphobic attacks? It's often not the workers, it's fucking petty bourgeoise, western educated reactionary elements. I've never name called by the village folks and they might look at me weird, but jfc you go to the city and I get death threats from these "Civilized" people.

/ Rant over.

Also you can share this around if you want to or make a better version and share that one instead.

Speaking at a supervisory board meeting at the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) on Wednesday, Putin said companies should call on staff to “build bigger, multi-child families.”

He noted that the number of employee children under age six would be taken into account in the recently approved Corporate Social Capital Standard (SOKB), an adapted set of international business practices that describes itself as a system on which “the future of the country” rests.

The Economic Development Ministry has said the SOKB will assess a company’s real impact on public well-being and determine how much government support they receive.

Its 95 indicators include the number of children per employee, the share of employees with multiple children, the share of employees who are married and the number of war veterans employed, as well as company spending on programs to support families and the promotion of “traditional Russian spiritual, moral, cultural and historical values.”

Duplicati never completes a back up to ANY service (that I've tried). I set up the back up, then click run, and it will upload for maybe 1-2 minutes, then it just.. stops. I have tried with large backups, and again with smaller backups. Does it work for anyone else? I have tried different cloud storage services, such as filen and google drive, and it just never finishes. Am i doing something wrong here?

TIA

I've noticed a lot of posts lately that are just spam for slopware, often not even having anything to do with self-hosting. As sad as I am about it, I'm pretty close to unsubscribing to keep spam out of my Lemmy feeds.

Before doing so, though, I wanted to ask if there was any formal policy or rule for the community that could help cut down on thr spam, and if so, what would be most useful for me to do when I see a spam post? That I'd, is the Report button the right tool, is there some other way to let moderators know?

heyhey,

this here might contain two questions actually.

  1. got an idea, what instrument might suit me?
  2. how, actually learn?

background

i am not new to learng stuff by myself, mostly languages in the widest sense. the only thing i can't really get my head around is music. i know rudimentary how to read notes, but ofc don't really grasp what they mean. when i learned a bit about electronics, that explained a lot more about music for me. i tried to learn the recorder (bc its was there) and keyboard (bc super versatile). by now, that all didn't work. i am a beginner.

i guess that is abt how these are played. i am used to grab a book sit down in a comfy position and read. keyboards need setup and are relatively large. the recorder is small and portable, but you need a decent body position, to control your breath.

i was thinking about some kind of ukulele, maybe? how do i build a habit, that works for practice?

update

ty all! all your comments really helped a lot to think clearer abt the why qnd what. i am a little overwhelmed and can't answer each of you. but tyvm! in some cases i feel like there is an answer that needs to get out. in others i don't know what to say other than "ty for sharing!"

i grabbed a guitar from a friend, now my fingies hurt. but i am also surprised of how quick you can get interesting results from such an instrument. i will try it out a bit longer and then maybe try a ukulele. i know they are quite different, but more similar to each other tgan to flute or keys.

maybe there's a journey starting. :)

Ahead of local elections that serve as a bellwether for next year’s presidential campaign, the National Rally says it is the victim of an increasingly radical left wing.

France’s far right is framing the death of an activist associated with far-right groups as a moment akin to the murder of Charlie Kirk in the United States.

The National Rally has in recent days started pointing to the killing of 23-year-old Quentin Deranque in Lyon as proof the poll-topping populist party is the victim of an increasingly radical political left, much as the MAGA movement in the United States did following Kirk’s assassination last year.

With key municipal elections next month serving as a bellwether of the National Rally’s electability heading into the 2027 presidential race, the incident has deepened the fissures in France’s polarized politics and fueled fears of further violence.
